Justin (old black cat) retuned my CB antenna today, and two things have changed:

I hear less noise while driving around, normally I could catch garbled transmissions on atleast one frequency. Now I hear almost nothing. We did talk on the cb a hundred yards away and it was loud and clear.

I hear ignition noise. I didnt before. ANL stops the ignition noise, but I never had heard it before.

I didnt touch the antenna mount, and it's bolted to the bedside. I'm assuming the ground is fine, and I didnt mess with the cable routing.

What gives?

 

does it have digital squelch control? i know if i have that on, my CB only pics up really clean signals, i usually adjust it myself.

 

It's got three *****. Volume, Squelch and RF gain. With squelch all the way down it's quiet.

It has the automatic noise limiter or ANL too. With it on its reaaaly quiet, but never was this quiet before the retune of the antenna.

 

mine runs real quiet, if i turn ANL off i get a ton of engine noise, but i get great reception, and i have a high output. dk what to tell ya, that was my only insight, im still a CB newb

 

Hmm maybe the antenna tune helped cut down the noise?
