I think that's very common. I've seen lots of painted interiors that get all scratched up if the vehicle is not a show vehicle. If you use it daily, carry careless passengers (you will be careful -- they won't) or stick large things in the seat to carry home that fall over or whatever -- it's going to get scratched clearcoat or not. Plastic is soft and plastic paints are soft and any kind of sharp object harder than the plastic will scratch it.
In OEM interiors, the plastic is molded a uniform color so that scratches, though unsightly, are far less dramatic than when you paint the interior a contrasting color.
I've always considered this an undesirable mod for my truck because I use it so hard -- but that's just me.

Thats why I will never paint like the full arm rests, kickpanel, or the surrounding for the radio and such, that entire bezel.. its much too common of a place, and anythign as simple as a watch band or bracelet will nick it right off.. and that just isnt acceptable to have to touch it up so often.. if you really wanted it done right, just get a professional to mold you a color of the plastic you want for it... woudl pay for itself in the long run if you dont have to touch it up every other month
