as for the needles, they come straight off with some effort (i used a fork to pry them off) and when you put them back on, just aim them right where they go when the truck is off.
I dont have a picture, but blue LED's behind the green paint will be kinda dark and not so blue

I have a "how-to" here on the board and on my cardomain site about doing just exactly that, lol. Good job of discovering it on your own.
My dash is red with blue highlights (like the needles are blue) and my 6 CD radio is now blue (used a control panel from a Navigator with white LED's, and used the blue glass paint).
Only problem is that the silkscreening on the back has some "density" in places to balance out the light distribution. You could have some "hot spots" to deal with, but the 05 dash is so different, you might not.
My how-to is here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/24
Also on my site are how-to's that show you how to use LED's in various switches, if yours are similar, and the cruise control pods -- though I don't know about yours.

The older needles were white -- made it easier. I take it yours are red or something? That could be a problem
I made mine blue by painting the clear circle below the needles -- but that worked because the needles themselves have no color.
I wonder if an older set of needles would solve that? Don't know if they can be made to fit or not.

Lol I didn't even see this post when I pm'd you. my gauges I got off ebay should be in, in a week or so, so hopefully I can get started soon. For the needles I had an idea to use the stock needles, but change them up a bit. Tape off about half an inch at the tip and paint the rest of the needle. this should make the inner part of the needle "disappear" at night and the tip light up right over the numbers. I'm gonna try that one out and I'll get some pics up once i get going.
