Spray foam under the shifter base?????

Someone a while back mentioned using spray foam under the shifter base to cut down on noise. However, I cannot find that thread anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction so I can read the write up on it?

Sorry no, it is a "how to" on here either a submission or something. Look for the hurst shifter one or fx4 one.

My way,
Use some sound deadening material to layer over the opening under the floor liner or rug.
Then wrap the top of the housing and on the shifter with foam, some the thin flexible packing foam.
Use as much as you like to fill the shift boot but not too much to deform it.

Seems to cut down a lot of the noise.

That sounds like a neat trick.

I wouldn't use any spray foam or any spray applied filler. Not only would it be difficult to apply, but quite the mess when you need to access that area again.

What is the goal here? Are you running a Hurst and it's loud??

Myself as well as some others have used dense carpet padding in a few layers around, above, and under the Hurst shift boot. Roughly 5" by 6" squares....whatever fits inside the cupholder bezel. I even have two pieces IN the Hurst shift boot. This quiets it down considerably compared to no insulation.

I've searched but cannot locate the thread I got the idea from so long ago and I do not have any pictures.

Eventually I plan to get rid of the stock shifter.

Find some foam rubber, wrap the lower stick and as much of the housing you can.

That should help some.

Stay away from your idea of the spray stuff… can’t imagine the mess it would be.
