First Ranger, First Post
Hey all,
My name is Adam, I'm from Michigan and 20 years old. I've been a lurker on this forum for a while while searching for a ranger to buy. I figured I'd finally register, since I finally bought a ranger! Unfortunately the transmission on my previous car went out a few weeks ago. Fortunately however, my uncle just so happened to be selling his ranger, as he was upgrading to a new F-150. I feel like I got a great deal on the truck at $3,500. It's an older 1997, but also the desirable extended cab 4.0 with 4x4 and has WARN manual locking hubs already installed. Also my uncle was the original owner, so I have the entire history of paperwork on the truck's maintenance since it left the dealership.
She got her first wash and wax this pat weekend in my driveway.
Hope you enjoyed the few photos.
I'm not positive what mods I'm planning so far. It's already sitting on stiffer shocks and 31x10.50x15 tires. I'm pretty sure I'll be painting the grill and fender flares to match the body color, and redoing the strip of bed liner along the bottom of the body. After that I haven't decided. At some point I'd like to get some new gloss black wheels, as the factory wheels are pitted to hell. I'll probably keep the chrome center caps though.
I look forward to using this forum for ideas and conversation!
Cheers!

Sweet truck, and only 2 owners, bonus
Your Uncle didn't upgrade, he got a bigger truck, you can't really upgrade FROM a Ranger, you can only upgrade TO a Ranger..............lol, hey it's true
4.0l OHV is a good reliable engine, only flaw, and it is more of a driver mistake, is a thin head casting between valve seats.
At the first sign of overheating pull over, if that gauge gets to hot you WILL crack a head, maybe both.
Black color is a love it and hate it, you love the way they look clean you hate the way the look dirty.

Lol true about the upgrade thing! I'd agree with that.
And thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind about the head castings. I'll have to keep my eye on the gauge, good to know!
I plan on keeping her pretty clean. Of course I'll be getting her dirty now and then, but she'll get a bath soon after.
