Howdy

New Ranger owner. Bought a 2002, like new, only 32 k miles.

I've been driving an S10 for the last 15 years. I'm back in a Ford, and I am one again in harmony with the cosmic ether.

What a beautiful day in northeast Indiana!

Terrific so far, but it's a different vehicle in a lot of ways.

The S10 was a low end vehicle from the start. When I bought it in '97, looking for something about 5 years old, I looked at Rangers first, but from what I had to choose from I preferred the S10s for interior room and "truckiness." I hauled a lot of crap in that thing and didn't worry about scratching the paint. The 2.8 L V-6 was a darn good engine. In 15 years I replaced an alternator, radiator, water pump, and a couple of freeze plugs that rusted through. The bodies have some rust problems. I was able to stay ahead of my rust for a long time, but it was starting to take over.

This Ranger is has much nicer features, the ride is a lot better, and is in a lot better shape from the start. It's going to be more like a car with a big open-air trunk. I can still haul camping gear or lumber or a water heater, but I'm less inclined let a front end loader throw a load of rocks in the back. I want a tilt up cover so I can leave my golf clubs back there.

The 2.8s and 4.3s are bad for freeze plugs to rust out.It sucks changing those also when they located between the block and cross member.
