How is it going fellow Ranger drivers. Recently purchased a 1988 Ford Ranger 2.0L 2wd. Great truck and like it very much. Doing some maintenance after the winter including...
Timing the engine
New front rotors and pads
New front bearings
New Spark Plugs and Wires
New valve cover gasket
New heater core
Trying to improve the gas mileage which is averaging about 17 mpg.
I found out that it should be getting about 22 city and 26 hwy.
Any thoughts or advice?

Welcome to R-F.
Looking over your post, did you check your Air Filter? Simple, but could be worth checking. Also, hows the exhaust? I know those are things that can affect gas mileage about. But someone with more knowledge should probably chime in sooner or later.
I'd even make a post about it the Engines section as you'll likely get more looks at the question that way.
