Icon10 Directions say introduce myself

Directions say introduce myself. I am Flumixt. On Wednesday morning I bought an '03 Ranger Super Duper Cab XLT. On Wednesday morning I needed a longer shift lever (or arm one tuther).

I drove a '79 Toyota for 26 years. I drove truck off and on (mostly on) for 36 years. Big shifting adjustment - The clutch is NOT wore out and grabs close to the floor instead of way out. The engine is nearly silent at idle - can't just get off the clutch and go, gotta rev it up etc. Think that's easy after 2 million miles?

Shifting is different. I'm used to shifting easylike with my finger tips in case I miss one it just spits it out no harm done and it doesn't grab a tooth. Not here. Gotta shift like a car driver - grab aholt and yank - with side pressure against the detent. I just can't!

The detents for 1-2 and 5-R really bug me. I'll probly try to pull them out eventually. I can find the holes w/o springs.

Well that's all in the learning curve and I will climb over it. I like that damn thing - hope it lasts as long as the Toyota and just dies of old age. Drove it 240 miles home about 70mph and the mileage was about 24. And yes, I shifted into 4th on the hills. Couldn't help it.

My only worry is if it can pull my boat outta the lake. The low gear leverage is about 12:1 on the ground. Toyota was 16:1 - we'll see.

Never wrote this kind of thing before - hope you aren't disgusted with it.

Flum

welcome. any picss of either truck? mines an 08 and i don't have to get on the gas from stop. could be a newer clutch though. i also just kinda pull or tap with my fingers from gear to gear. i've had a couple people drive it and they feel the same way about the clutch. it 's so smooth feeling.

there is tons of info here and good people too. again welcome to the site!
