Just bought 99 Ranger, Gas Mileage stinks but love the truck.
Hi folks, Just bought a 99 ranger sport with V6 3L Flexfuel automatic 2wd 90k miles.
I like the truck a great deal but coming from a compact car I have a little trouble swallowing the crappy gas mileage. The truck is driven more in town in start in stop traffic. It gets between 12-14mpg. No, I don't have a lead foot. I have done the following maintenance since purchase.
New Motorcraft plugs.
Motorcraft Wires.
PVC valve.
Changed oil pan gasket.
Changed oil with Motorcraft oil and filter.
Fuel filter.
Stock air filter.
Cleaned Mass air flow sensor.
Cleaned EGR valve.
Cleaned throttle body.
Ran fuel injector cleaner lucas.
Tires properly inflated.
.
The truck had Brake pads.,serpentine belt, Newer tires, ball joints replaced and shocks and all around alignment when I bought it.
The engine now runs smoother than any I have test driven. But no improvement in gas mileage.
The only thing I haven't done is change the muffler that is starting to get a little loud.
It is not blocked by any means. I have never had a muffler make a difference in gas mileage before so I will probably leave it until spring.
My question, is there anything else to be done to improve gas mileage?
