My mount is a "Beat all to Hell" 2002 Ranger Edge. 3.0, 4x2, tortion bars have been "cranked" to make room for 31-10.50-15's on stock Aluminun Wheels. She has never let me down and,is "mechanically" in very good Condition. This is a project I have Lusted for...to build a truck that will be unique. Now I am in a positoin to do it. The Project (The Black Pearl) will be finished in the spring before the Bluebonnets bloom.

I'll be posting "before" and "after pictures. I will ask many questions, try to learn from other projects and DIY posts.

I hope to learn and, in time, give information. And I freely admit I ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer...but by he time this is finished I hope to be honed to a very fine "RazorEdge".

How about some pics? I want to see these 4"lift spindles and wheel setup. Also, why 7500miles on the oil?

 

No problem man thats sorta the way I'm going i just pick and choose ideas from the years i like I've got 06 mirrors expo seats and expo overhead console and expo shorty console. Build it how you want it thats my opinion i pick the features that suit me!

 

Forgive me...I thought I had made it clear that the mod's I have listed are anticipated. As I said...I'm in the process of gathering parts and plan to build my truck the first three weeks in March.

I change my oil at 7500 miles (+/- a couple of hundred) because I am using Mobil 1 Synthetic. Some people say I should change it more often...some people tell me I should go 10,000 on synthetic oil. 7500 seems to work for me...I have an engine oil analysis run every time I change the oil to detect any abnormal wear in my engine components. I analyze the transmission fluid and the differential every third oil change for the same reason.

I see. 10,000 on oil just seems nuts to me. I run penz platinum in my 150, and try not to go a mile over 5k.

 

Yeah i run 5k on maxlife but its only a blend some of the newer fords even say in the book that close to 10,000 is acceptable however on an older engine with synthetic you have to watch it closer as older engines consume oil faster than newer ones between leaks and normal consumption i use half a quart in 5k. So if 7500 works for razor edge go for it! You just to be very aware of your leaks if any and make sure the level stays correct but it won't break down as quickly as regular oil so 7500 is perfectly acceptable.

 

One quart every five thousand miles ain't bad. I think the analysis made on the oil samples I send in keep me quite informed as to what contaminants might be in my crankcase. And although I have never had this problem I have been told that an engine that burns an inordinate amout of oil (more than a quart every two or three thousand miles or so) will not have just metal contaminants but chemical contaminates as well. Things like sulphur and acids that, through corrosion, will cause an engine to fail catastrophically. These acids are a caused, normally, by the seepage of oil, contimated by even the slightest hint of water, that seeps past worn rings and when the engine is started, the cylinders will have no lubrication until oil pressure builds up. Just about everything in the top end will be dry until oil starts pumping into the valve galleys.

She's about to turn over 150k and, although I've been called a liar, so help me God, my truck does not burn more than a fourth of a quart between changes.

Used to be, you could determine the condition of engine oil by observing how dark the oil was and the way it smelled. But the Mobil 1 Synthetic looks as good at seventy-five hundred miles as the day it ws poured into the crankcase. And I say "Pour" for a reason. I know a guy that is into GM Muscle cars. He ran synthetic oil and I talked him into having oil samples analyzed.

He always let the oil change center "pump" his oil in from a nozzle marked "Mobil 1". His second sample said the oil sample was not synthetic but rather refined crude...straight SAE30...oil that we used before synthetics. So I always request that my oil be poured from a Mobile 1 container (I'm too frickin' lazy to do it myself)...that way know the oil is what I ask for and use. I make it a habit to watch when oil is being introduced into my engine. I always make them stop putting oil in my engine when the last quart is half empty. Ford specifications say my crankcase capacity is 4.5 quarts. So that's how much I put in it. I use the rest of the oil when I service my riding mower and a couple of other things around my place that require oil.
