Hello From New Sarepta, Alberta

Hello friends.

Im Wulfonce. I lived in Ontario my whole life up until September 2008 when I moved west to the land of opportunity... Alberta! ... well not anymore.
*Tries to hold back laughter*

Anyway my 2003 Mazda B3000 hauled myself and all my possessions 3600km (2237 miles) north through Sudbury, Sault Saint Marie, around lake Superior, then west through Thunder Bay, Kenora (I feared for my life going through here), Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, then arrived in my new driveway in the small town of New Sarepta all in 3 days. I cracked open a beer in triumph as I gave my truck a pat on the hood with a feeling in my heart like
"we did it... together"

I got my truck back in the summer of 2006 with only 68,000km (42,250miles) and other then a defective fuel shutoff switch (covered under warranty) I've had no problems with it. That is up until last week. Long story short my truck needs a new engine. More on that later.

Anyways Im glad I found this forum and Im looking forward to talking with you fine folks.

~Wulfonce~

New Sarepta... Cool. I grew up in and around Sherwood Park. Welcome to Alberta and RF. Looks like we should plan an Alberta/BC meet sometime.. Too bad I am getting married this summer so it limits my availability.
I live in Fort McMurray right now but I am moving back around Sherwood Park or St. Albert come July.

welcome. Any reason you went around lake superior on the canada side? Seems like it would be quicker to go thru upper michigan.

Funny, I get asked this alot.

Interesting fact:

The shortest route from Waterloo Ontario through Michigan and then to Edmonton is only shorter then the northern route around Lake Superior by less then 25km! That's right, their damn near the same distance. I plotted out both routs on google earth in extensive detail before I set out.

I figured If their that close in distance Id rather go through northern Ontario just for the scenic beauty. And boy was it worth it! I'll probably post some pics of my journey in the near future.

I really wanted a Ranger but I couldn't say no when I saw the price, condition and how low the mileage was on my Mazda. It had everything I wanted. Manual Transmission, ac, cd player, and power nothing. Also I dont know if they put a different suspension on the mazdas but from the trucks I test drove the mazdas seem to be a noticeably smother ride.

25 km is nothin too compared to the hassle of entering the US idling out gas, then reentering canada, for some reason i thought it cut off more miles.

Although you would have been able to buy some cheaper gas

same thing happened to me hence the reason i have a mazda also, although i could have gone either way but when i found out the bseries was the same and i wasnt finding any decent rangers, thats why i went the mazda route. Drove 2.5 hours each way to go get mine.
