Palmetto Ranger

Hey,

So, I'm a new Ranger owner. I recently picked up a 2000 4x4 w/ the 3.0L Auto. have never have been much of a Ford guy (but the old 300 I6 is one of my favorite powertrains). I was in the market for a reasonable truck, and stumbled across this thing, and just kinda ended up digging it. It needs a little TLC, and that's really why I ended up on forums, since I'm looking for info.
So, first things first, the ball joints are getting replaced, but that's a piece of cake. Now I gotta search around for where to buy this separator gasket & EPC (?) that I understand can lead to headaches in the future. Ounce of prevention kind of thing, and since I'll be dropping the pan to change fluid and filter, I thought I could kill two birds with one stone. So if any of you have a recommendations on where to pick up this gasket, I'm all ears.

Also, any other things I should watch out for. Like I said, I've haven't dealt with Fords much, so I'm not as familiar with their powertrains like I am the GM 4LXX & 4TXX.

As for me, I'm a recent transplant to Charleston, SC, and after 11 years in MI, I'm thrilled I will not have to shovel any snow this year. And the lifestyle down here means that this little truck is going to see a lot of duty hauling bikes west to the mountains, and kayaks and surfboards to the beach (something I'm going to learn).

Any advise, is away appreciated.

-Brett

Don't expect to move mountains with that 3.0l. Some people love them and some curse the day they were manufactured.

Welcome and any pics?

No pics yet. Need to clean it up. I wasn't expecting to move mountains with this thing, but after doing some poking around and talking to a couple of people, I got the impression that this thing is bulletproof, and that's more important than power (if I need that, I have a Goat standing by). Just ended up looking for simple, reliable, and useful. Hopefully this thing fits the bill.
