Hello everyone. the reason I call myself the redheaded stepchild is because I , or rather my wife, owns a 1998 Mazda B-4000 4x4.
The "Zoomer" has 273,000 plus miles on it. We bought the "Zoomer" on May 1,1998 it had a grand total of 57 miles on it, yeah, it was new. We bought the Mazda from John Finger Mazda in Greenville, SC, that's where we lived at the time. The salesman's name was Michael Douglas, yep, for real.
Now, we all know that a Mazda this model is really a Ranger, so, I hope you all won't think too lowly of us.
Why did we buy a Mazda instead of a Ford? Well, we looked at Fords first. We went to a Ford dealer in Anderson, SC, walked all over the lot, looked at every Ranger on the lot, noone from the lowest car washer to the sales manager even aknowledged us. We left figuring they liked their Rangers so much they wanted to keep them all, we were more than happy to accomodate them.
The Mazda has really been a good one. My wife has kept all maint. records, oil changes, tires, brakes, etc. I'll even bet you we can tell you within 100 gallons how much gas we have used. We have had the auto trans rebuilt twice, the first time was a lousy job done by a lousy shop in Knoxville, TN. I won't mention their name, just beware, all trans shops are not the same. The truck is in the shop right now for a shift solenoid and a torque convertor lock-up solenoid, also an actuator for the front axle.
I'd say, all in all, not bad service.
Our two other vehicles are a 1988 Jeep Cherokee, and a 1990 Chevy S-10.
The Mazda and the S-10 are our daily drivers.
We moved from SC to TN in 2004 to a place called Cosby, near Gatlinburg, we both have to work, but we're living a life long dream.
