I'm new to this forum an THIS is my first 99 FORD RANGER 3.0 .
NOT SURE WHAT IVE GOT. HERE IS WHAT HAS HAPPENNED SINCE PURCHASE MOTOR SEEMS SLUGGISH NO POWER, HAS ROUGH IDLE. THE WATERPUMP WENT OUT CAUSEING REDLINE OVERHEATING. NO ENGINE HAS NO COMPRESSION POWER AN I WAS TOLD IT HAS BLOWN UP. . ANY IDEAS OF WHATS NEXT WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THNKYOU FOR ANY AN ALL REPLYS. HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUDGET IS VERY SLIM TO NONE. BUT WOULD LIKE TO REBUILD WITH MORE POWER

Overheating an engine will cause problems but as long as you shut engine off right away it won't cause too much damage.
This is not a Ford or Ranger problem, no engine reacts well to overheating, the engine metal expands and crushes head gaskets and can crack rings and heads
If you are not doing the engine work yourself then best bet will be to get a used 3.0l Vulcan engine and replace the "blown up" engine.
If you can do the engine work yourself then I would redo compression test, dry first and then wet test, to see if it is rings or valves that are the cause of low compression.
If rings then yes, probably be best to swap out the engine.
If it is valves then changing the heads would be less expensive course.
There are no cost effective ways to increase power on the 3.0l Vulcan engine, turbo or super chargers are about it.
Morana racing has some "go fast" parts for the Vulcan engine: http://www.moranav6racing.com/catego...?CategoryID=36
