Looking for a Ranger

I was looking at getting a Ranger to upgrade from my 1982 VW Rabbit Truck (Caddy). I found one on craigslist and was looking for some information on the 2.3L here. Here is the ad. 1995 Ford Ranger 2wd 5 speed

Any help that you guys could give me would be appreciated. I would be taking off the CAI if I got it and would be putting the stock airbox back on with the MAF Sensor.

I'm sorry but that truck looks like a turd. Also the 5 speeds like to eat slave cylinders.

Thank you master mechanic. I'm not sure the exact amount but more than enough do to cause a concern. And no I'm not the only one that has to replace their slave cylinder often. I would never buy another manual Ranger if I were ever to buy another Ranger.

Again. The truck looks like a turd. You can find something a lot better for just a bit more.

Not worth it for $1100. Looks like it needs alot of love that it hasn't gotten for a while.

I mean, the guy didn't even bother to clean it up to sell it.

How do I think I'm better? Explain? Grow up? I way more mature than you kid. I don't do things just to be cool guy like you do. You don't like my attitude then too f*cken bad. Grow some thicker skin so you don't start b!tching when someone gives you a hard time. I say what is on my mind.

Your truck is a POS and so is the one in the ad that's why you like it. I'm trying to save the OP some money because that truck looks like it will cost him quite a bit of money in the long run since it has redneck mods just like your truck.

Wow you guys really phucked this thread up, well done!

Maybe instead of shooting off your mouth, ask the guy some questions.

How much are you looking to spend?

The 2.3 is a good reliable engine. As for the 5 speed, if your going to get a 2.3 and actually want to have some fun with it, do not get an auto. That thing will be super slow.

^x2... It's definately not a "in mint condition" truck, but it's a starting point. With some mods being done to it all ready and that sweet hood I'd offer 900$... Just my 2cnts..

Welcome to R-F.

Thank you. I am going to offer him 7-800 dollars depending on the condition. I know it needs a windshield and tires. When i check it out on Saturday I will fill in more. I talked to the guy who has it and he said the truck runs good but he got another ranger that was set up with a lift instead of this. I just want a truck to transport my bike and such that is a little faster than this:

I'd keep that and swap in a VW 1.8T engine.

That Caddy is MINT! Heck, you could probably sell the VW for enough to buy a really nice Ranger. Those things are selling like hot cakes right now.

Thanks. Mme and my uncle rebuilt it from the ground up...except for the engine which is finally starting to show signs of it's miles at 292,000+. We welded panels in to fix the fenders and all the other rust was fixed as well. We got the factory paint and sprayed it in the garage. It's not bad but it won't start now and I just don't have time for it with school and work. But I can't sell it until DMV gives me a title, which they were supposed to give me years ago.

I am putting up the Caddy on ebay tonight to see what I can get for it. Some states don't require a title for a vehicle this age so I will see what I can get.

I concur, but unfortunately the 2.3 manual has a tendency to be super-slow as well, especially in the heat, when the a/c is running, on hills, when the driver is in deep thought, and when there's a fly riding on the bumper. (Mine is a 2.3 manual....but I still love it!)

The up side is that it is a very good engine, however I'd be concerned about whether it's due for a new timing chain or other "old truck" scheduled maintenance.

welcome man, i gotta say that vw is in nice shape...as for the ranger, may have to do some work to it here and there but if you talked him down in price a little it would be a sweet deal in my opinion.

Thanks guys. All of you. The vw is now for sale. Hopefully it is a quick sale.

Howdy. It's got potential, but it's gonna need some love. I wouldn't pay more than $700-800 for it.
