New From NJ/NY Area

Hey all, Just joined this forum a day or so ago. I hail from Toms River, NJ, but currently live in Pleasantville, NY. I head home usually at least once a month over the summer if not more. Born and raised on the beach, nothing really better (that is unless being raised in the mud). I currently have a 01 Ranger XLT 4x4 Stepside. I have finally had time (more so money) to start working on it. Pretty stock right now, but I'm hoping in the next 6 months to have a lift on it. I also have a 93 Eddie Bauer Bronco that is also pretty much stock.

I'm always looking to go out wheeling whether I'm in NJ or NY. And always looking for new places to go and new people to do it with.

Welcome to the site. Did you go wheeiling in Toms River or elsewhere? A bunch of us go wheeling over in Wharton State Forrest every once in a while, you can always find some mud there.

A bit in Toms River, some in Berkley. I used to hit up Bamber Lake till I got a $75 dollar ticket from a DEP Cop (and I lucked out. I was nice and polite to him. He could've impounded my truck and gave me a $1500 ticket and made me have to attend court).

Let me know the next time you guys hit up Wharton. Its like an 1hr 40mins from me in Toms River, but like 1hr 10mins from me when I'm in NY.

Do you do any wheeling in Jackson?

Sounds like you're looking up the wrong place, Wharton State Forrest is about 45 mins south of Jackson, just by taking 537 to Route 206. The nearly dead on location can be found by typing in Atsion, NJ in mapquest. It will put a point by where we usually meet up. Keep your eyes posted for Wharton on this site and eventually you'll run across one of our trips.

I wheel in Jackson every once in a while, my property backs up to Collier's Mills. I haven't found anything great yet, however I did manage to find the stickiest mudhole I've ever seen... It swallowed nearly 3 feet of my Bronco.

I don't think that is the one Kevin, there's not that much water by it. I went through the first trail when you get onto Hawkin Road from 537, its right near the hill climb. After 3 days of downpouring rain, the hole gets all soupy, you can hardly even walk through it. It sucked the truck down to its axles, and I broke my hi-lift trying to get out.

Yea I saw the winch and was like good deal, that should be an easy unstuck. No traction b/c of tires or the ground? So what did you guys end up using to get him out of that mess?

Not any time soon man. I still haven't gotten around to getting a high angle driveshaft for the Bronco... too much articulation and the stock one will slip out of the yoke (again). I need the truck for towing, so I can't risk it.

yea he built a new bumper the week before, and i kinda rushed him out that day so he half a$$ mounted the relay box and something fried lol. we used his high lift jack as a winch and it didnt move him, i tried tugging him out and my tires are garbage and no lockers in sand, and i ended up ripping one of his front tow hooks off, so we finally jacked the front up as high as possible with the high lift and found a really long 4x4 board in the woods and stuck it under and pulled him right out, the problem we had was keeping the jack from falling over, it was deep sticky sand under the water and the jack kept falling.

why do you need a driveshaft? i had a 6" lift on my 96 bronco and never had a problem, thats weird.
