Explorer Sport Track Rear Window

Has any one retrofitted an explorer sport track rear roll down window to their ranger? This is something I am thinking about adding to my list of possibles for my truck. They look like the same size and shape, I just need to figure out how to do it.

I would imagine they are quite different as looking at them they are shorter in hieght and mounting the motor inside the back wall right there on the ranger would be next to impossible because there is no room. Great idea but probably not going to happen.

wasn't there a company that made a replacement that popped into place and was removable? like the one on the avalanche?

that would be better then the $500 option and it opens the window more which would be nice.

It's illegal for the rear window to roll down in a truck, the way the sport trac gets away with it is because the sport trac is considered a suv.

if that was true, how the hell is a tundra 4dr considered a "suv"?????

it's a great idea...but don't htink it would work at all without major modding of the window frame area on the ranger cab.

I have never heard of that law. And if it were true it would be a national law, they would not build a vehicle that is state specific, people move, cars are bought and resold, etc. The only thing usually different state to state is Cali and its emissions. They make rear sliding windows, why wouldn't that be illegal too? I just think they are cool, but pointless. Any leaf or dirt in the bed will fly right in and either pelt you in the back of the head, neck, ears...or just end up dirtying up the inside very, very quick.

I just checked (however the dude i checked with may be stupid) if it's a POWER window (up/down variety) they are not legal in a pickup truck due to the fact that the seriously weaken the structural integrity of the cab. <(I don't know how tho!)

It's actually not as bad as you'd think. I used to have a rear slider in an older chevy that opened up almost half of the rear windshield, the aerodynamics of the truck keeps that trash and even rain from flying in (granted you don't have a horrific tail-wind). It actually allows the wind coming in from the side windows to flow freely through the cab and out the rear window = less turbulence in the cab and more of a steady "stream" of air.

Wasn't there a Ranger version back in the late 80s-1990s that had a power rear window?

HAHA... I don't know about that the first time I opened my back window there were a lot of leaves in the bed, I reached back and slid it open and about 2 sec. later i looked like i had screwed a oak tree, but i had my side windows up.

If this were true, than the glass would be a structural component.

Yeah, I know about the aftermarket roll downs. After my buddy got a sport trac and taking a short road trip in it, I really enjoyed having all of the windows down including the rear window and the sunroof. Yeah, I could just get a sport trac but they dont come with manual transmissions and I dont really like the look of the half truck half SUV.

Titans have rear (up and down) sliding power windows. It can't be illegal, it's sounds like someone is giving you a varient of the blinker fluid story. More and more companies are using power (up/down) rear windows.
