Bed Tool Box opinions?

I'm looking to get either a toolbox that sits on top the rails or one a bed chest. I'm most likely going to be using it as more a trunk than anything. What are your opinions as to what you've had experience with...

Just meke sure you put somehting more than the included foam between the rail the toolbox. Intsall using "J" bolts from Tractor Supply Company that way you dont have to drill itto the truck, rather hook the the bedrail

I had the same one Scott did above, worked pretty good until the key broke off in the lock. Just don't stand on the box, its not super strong.

Isn't there some type of bolt to the bed style available too? Kinda like a safe in a closet?

Mine bolts on with J bolts...I also have a single lid to fit bigger items...It's deep and doens't taper at the bottom like Scotts does though.
only pic for now...I take it out in winter so I don't have to polish it every year

I have the same one as Scott above. I really like it. Its relatively cheap compared to others and its held up really well so far. Also, its big enough for quite a lot of stuff.
And he's right. Get some more foam than what comes with it. I'm doing that as soon as it gets back from the transmission shop because it chipped off a good amount of the paint on the bedrails.

I've had the deep box and currently have the low profile one pictured in Scott's post, only thing I didn't like about it was the glare from the sun drove me insane. I used it mainly for keeping tools and work stuff out of the cab but now I have a full top and the box gets used once in a blue moon as a cooler or holding the munchies for tailgate partys...

I have the flush mount box....the only reason is cause I have a roll up tonneau and it fits perfectly ...even when its rolled up it sits behind the box lol

I have the regular Kobalt box, not the low profile, one thing I like about it is that I can fit a full size shovel in the top across the bed rails.

I'm real happy with this Kobalt toolbox I got at Lowe's. They had two sizes there, a large and a small. I got the small because it doesn't take up too much of my bed space, and that has worked out perfect for me. It's large enough to carry some essentials, but not too large. I also never had a problem with seeing out the back window either. I used 3" butterfly nuts to attach it to my truck without drilling into the bed rails.

I wish they made that size in a low-pro. Thats all the depth I need, I just don't like how it comes up so high.

The height doesn't bother me at all. it's really a non-issue. It's just a little more room to put stuff.

It looks really narrow...can you fit a large normal sized cooler in it?

Inside dimension is 10" due to the locking mechanism. I have no clue how big of a cooler you're talking about.

Without the locking mechanism, you're just under 12".

I have plenty enough room for emergency tools, a back pack with first aid stuff, jumper cables, waxing polishing stuff.....etc...

Yeah all i need is for a 6" wide toolbox and straps. I have under my backseat for everything else. I'll probably go with one of those wheel well boxes so I can use my bed cover still.

Wirelessly posted

I'm using an ammo box in the back of the cab :) lol

Couldn't bring myself to spend the $300 on one of the ones for over the wheel well
