thinking about putting supercharged 3.8 from a superocupe in my ranger

Anyone got any ideas if its possible i have a 93 thunderbird supercoupe with a supercharged 3.8v6 im thinking about putting it in my rock crawling ranger. Just for the extra low end tourque of the supercharger. anyone got any ideas or ever seen anyone do it. I know ill need to switch the computer and wire harness from the bird to my truck. and the tranny is the same and the motor mouts look similar just wondering if anyone has ever seen it done or not

I agree It might be cool. You said the tranny housing would bolt right up to the 4x4 tranny though??? Sounds to easy...hmmmmm lol if it is does turn out to take a lot of fab work might as well put a 302 in it and use bronco/older f150 stuff. That is if it is a full blown rig.?. For sure try the 3.8 if it seems to bolt up pretty easy and just mess with mounts and stuff.

ive thought about it but the motors are know to blow head gaskets due to the way the heads bolt to the block. also they use a a different transmission bolt pattern then any of the ranger transmissions.

a super charger isnt going to give you that much low end its going to give you more top end power your better off putting a v8 in it if you want low end TQ

WTH are you talking about downey? a turbo is all for high end power and a supercharger is all about torque down low

unless you build that 3.8 your not going to get the same low end as a very mild v8

Either turbo or supercharger can be built/meant for whatever your trying to do. low end or high end. Whatever you are building the car/truck for. Route superchargers are more for bottom end. Centrifugal superchargers are more for high end. If you get a small turbo you can build boost almost instantly. It all depends on the housing size. Both inlet and exhaust housing size, mixed with the inlet and exhaust turbine wheels. Also things like higher compression helps more for power right away. Things like high compression and low boost. Or high compression and high boost if it's tuned really well. Plus building a motor and making it much more efficient generally will help all over the rpm span. I do agree strongly agree with Downey, if you want a lot of bottom end with the same work as doing the 3.8 with it not bolting up as originally thought you can just as easily swap in a 302 or 351 or whatever you want. There is more than enough info out there for doing a v8 swap into a Ranger. Very easy to just use explorer and or older fullsize f150/bronco drivetrain. Hit up the v8 section and see what's going on in their.

Do it, youll be original, and sound neat too ha. If youve already got the parts I say go for it.

i actually own a 93 thunderbird supercoupe with the 3.8 supercharged stock they are rated at 210 horse and 315 ftlbs of torque from the factory and they make that torque starting around 2500rpm. i have another complete engine out of another supercoupe that has ported and polished heads and intake bigger valves stiffer springs custom blower cam and full length headers and it makes 15lbs of boost 12lbs is stock.also has 24lb injectors 18's are stock 5.0 mass air. so it should make just as much if not more power then a V-8 but without all the extra weight

ive done v8 ranger swaps before there not that difficult im just looking for something unique and ive had this motor sitting around for almost 2 years and im not gonna put it in my supercoupe its all original with only 51,000miles on it so im gonna leave it alone. and the 4.0 in my ranger runs great only has 98,000 on it but its under powered and not known for being a powerhouse anyway.
