Truck Add-ons
Hey guys, I'm new to the site. Not real mechanically minded, but I get along alright. I've got an 08 Ranger FX4. Right now it's bone stock. I would like to add a couple inches of lift, an exhaust, and also do something to help my gas mileage. I know that sounds like an oxymoron since I want to add a lift, but I'm maybe getting 20 mpg stock. If I could keep that and go from 255's up to 31's or maybe even 275's I'd be happy. What programmers do you like? Also, does a throttle spacer help power/mileage, and how much damage would it cause if I completely gutted my exhaust?

Getting a couple of inches of lift for the front is easy. Just crank the torsion bars. Do a search there is a good "how to" with pictures around here somewhere. For lift in the rear you can do "add a leafs" or change to the 6400 shackles. Again search button is your friend. For the exhaust there are a whole bunch of cat back kits.

When I was 16 I got a CAI and the throttle body spacer came with it. (Young a dumb) I've never bothered taking it out cause I love hearing people ask if I have a turbo lol

I know I ain't going to get 25+, especially with 31's or 32's lol (although I do know a guy who gets 28 cruisin at 75 in an 03 Dodge 2500 with Cummins). Thanks for the exhaust comment and throttle body info. What lifts do you guys recommend? Have any of you that drive later models (07+) had any problems with your driveshafts? I read somewhere that when lifting a later model, something about the yoke design caused them to go out about 20,000 miles after installing the lift.
