Has Anyone ever...

Pondered the Idea of turning an old explorer into a quad cab ranger?
Not that I'm thinking about doing it, just curious if anyone has ever thought of it, or even tried it?

I bought a total-loss Explorer for parts a year ago that I was tempted to try it with and some other stuff, but ended up selling it to reclaim my back driveway. I think it'd be pretty cool, but the bed would only be about 2ft long unfortunately. I think to make it still "classify" as a truck you'd have to stretch it out a bit and add about 12-18" of bed behind the rear door.

Would be cool to see completed though!

I have seen a Cherokee or 2 that have been converted. Never an Explorer though.

Yea, I would def want at least a shortbed on it, so the frame would have to be lengthened quite a bit.

I was thinking even a long bed, but that may be way long and just look weird.

By saying making and explorer a quad cab ranger, I assume it to have a seperate cab and bed. Not going to be fun to make happen. Espicially in the rear door department.

I too have seen tons of XJ's and even BII's converted to have a pickup bed. Pretty neat rigs. SHOOT, even a couple Subaru wagons converted. (can't remember the model designation at this time, but mid 80's to 92ish.)

I think it would be easier to buy a ranger and stretch it.

Maybe,
hardest part is the doors though.
Thats why I was thinking maybe closing up the back of an explorer may be easier than trying to fab doors.

I think there was a build thread on TRS of a guy stretching a Ranger to have four doors. Don't know how far he got but he was doing it.

He's here too....all the major sites too I believe. I can't remember for the life of me his name. But he called it the MX2 or MX3? It's done and complete and was at the SEMA show this year in Vegas outside the main entrance.

oh... "quad cab" to me is an extended CAB with 4 doors, CREW CAB im assuming is what you meant to say.. which is a 4 door whatever..

ya i agree with sniper_101. unless you extend the frame a bit the bed would be roughly 2ft long..

its like taking a full sized bronco and taking the roof off...

now on the exploder if you cut the rear doors off it would look sweet!!

I don't believe that's what he asked . . .

Has anyone ever pondered the Idea of turning an old explorer into a quad cab ranger?

It might not be what he asked but it is alot easier then cutting and welding a explorer.

Well, you could buy a $2000 Explorer and mod it, or spend $10k+ on a Sport Trac . . .

Just sayin'
