I cut my tip off because it was rusting out bad. I cut it off before the turn out behind the mud flap and added a turn down tip. Sounds exactly the same, just now there's no half rusted chrome tip there. I painted the turn down and exhaust pipe with flat black BBQ paint. Now you don't even notice it.

Yeah, I was getting disgusted at my slow rotting SS tip that wasn't so SS.....or at least after 9 years it ain't so SS.

I was going to just cut the tip off and leave it a straight 90deg end, but I still wanted the majority of the exhaust to blow away from under the truck, so the turn down was put on. There was absolutely no change in sound in doing this, which I liked. If I wanted some rumble I'd swap to an aftermarket muffler.

If you're looking to go for a "hidden" look, just cut the exhaust pipe pipe off before the turn out behind the mud flap..........or go back to the axle even. I've heard a few trucks with turn downs right behind the muffler and that's just a little loud.

One of my pipes actually rusted through and fell off so I just cut the other one. I love the sound of it. Its a gibson muffler not sure on the specs though

Sorry to hijack the thread..

What's the going rate for installation of a muffler? I don't have the welding kit, nor the ability to cut the pipe.

Basically what you look for is the part where the frame goes up around the beginning of the bed. I had one where I put the pipe between the leaf spring mount and where the frame went up. just go to that spot then do a 90 and straight out the side...

Take it to a Muffler shop they should know how to do it, my muffler was moved forward towards the engine & added new hangers to the pipe&muff.

Im sure I can figure it out, was just wondering if there was a pic. Thanks.

Id rather just do it myself and save the couple hundred, I just spent 100 bucks total on the exhaust on my jeep versus the 300 or so the exhaust shop wanted.

Now if I could just figure out this header thing Id be set...
