Has anyone had this idea cross their mind?

I've been debating on getting the RCD kit, but hate the idea of having to drop down to the 11.28" rotor. I've seen enough products for other vehicle manufactures that utilise an adaptor bracket with big brake upgrade kits, and this would essentially be the same idea.

The bracket would only have to move the caliper out .36 inches, which may not be possible with space constraints. But then again I don't think the pad contacts the whole face of the rotor does it? On my 94 the pads don't contact the outer ~.5 inches of the rotor face anyways. Is this the same for the newer rangers as well?

I'm not aware of the physical dimensions of the RCD knuckle and caliper bracket, but I would assume it would be possible to do.

Now, to keep this on the idea of a bracket, I know there is not much difference in stopping power from the 11.28 to the 12" rotor, but I see it as a step backward to downsize brake parts. So I don't want to hear "just use the 11.28 rotor and be done with it" as thats not what I want to know.

I'd like to know if this would be possible, or if the physical dimensions of the knuckle and bracket themselves won't allow such a thing.

(on a side note, LilBlue in another thread mentioned RCD may be redesigning the kit for the 03+ rangers. Anyone have any info on that? If its true then there would be no need for my idea.)

the RCD kit replaces the knuckle right? And you use your stock caliper bracket with the aftermarket knuckle.

The problem is, it thinks its using the smaller 11.25 rotor, so it moves the caliper bracket to work with a 11.25 rotor. SOOO, why not get a longer caliper bracket, just something with enough length to bolt to the aftermarket knuckle and still clear a 12 rotor.

I wanna say ive seen something similar done before, but dont quote me on it.

personally, if you can get something machined out, it would be stronger then adding a bolt on extenion

because it is such a small mount that there wouldn't be enough room for the bracket...

unless you made a whole new caliper bracket...

the superlift bracket has both holes like i mentioned in my PM, but those holes are really close...

 

i didnt notice any decrease in stoppin power when i dropped down to the 11.25" and im rollin on 37" swampers.. there is no other mounting bracket to move the caliper. its all in the knuckle

 

Your first two statements are what I was looking for as an answer.

If the SL knuckles have both sets of holes in them, does anyone know if the RCD knuckles have enough meat to put the second set of holes in them?
