flat paint

So my Ranger needs some body work (scratches, dings, grooves, some rust). I was looking at the paint job on the new Focus RS (stupid fast little thing). They use really nice paint job (I think). Here is the link: ford focus rs500 JUST CAR That little thing could kill my Mustang :(. Unless I threw on an SC :)

So, would you guys say I could duplicate that with a semi gloss paint? It is not quite flat, and looks like it has a grippy texture to it like it is all rubber. I am not sure how it would look on a truck, though. Just an idea since I will need to paint some spots anyways. So whatever I need will need to bond to clear coat.

Oh for sure you can easily copy an expensive car's paint job. I recommend a sunny day and 10 cans of Rustoleum black barbecue paint. That'll get ya cookin.

Lol. I actually bought some high temp grill paint for spraying the leaf springs. I have been checking out people opinions of POR-15, and it seems like there is some divide like there always is. I will probably give that a try though for the chassis.

I'm just joking. It's pretty obvious he cannot replicate a brand new cars paint job at home. If he had the skills and tools to do it he wouldn't be asking online for advice.

And por-15 kicks *** for underneath the truck.

Haha, True. I always second guess myself, too. Talking things out is how I develop ideas and make final decisions.

Nice to hear some good feedback for the por-15. Some people talk like it is crap and some like it is manna from Heaven. All I know is I want to slow down the rusting process.

Thanks. I will have to post some pics when it is all done.

por 15 is a good product, i dont reccomend coating the bottom of your truck in it while its assembled. nuts, bolts, and any hardware will be forever fused together once a good coat is applied. it dries rock hard, and it is necessary to take things appart and paint things seperately with that product. it also takes a few coats to get a substantial seal from moisture and it takes forever to tack up and dry. if i remember its also over $70 for a quart i believe.. easiest product ive seen for underbody coating, that i use,, is just a basic can of black rubberized rocker guard. its easy to apply and coats much better. and much cheaper as i buy it in spray cans for anywhere between $8-14. dont buy tar undercoating, it makes working under the truck a real mess..

Its not flat black. Its a satin coat, has more gloss than flat, kinda in between flat and full gloss.

Its actually kinda hard to lay nicely. If your not equal in your spray pattern alot of times you can get stripes because it doesnt blend as well as a gloss paint.

I wouldnt rattle can it personally. Invest in a spray gun and run it with a compressor. You will get alot nicer spray

Yup. I Duplicolor Rubber Undercoated and Rustoleum Black Primered my entire frame. Worked out great.
