Just an idead, but I was wondering if it would be possible to change my power windows to an always hot power source.

can anyone think of any reasons not to do this? i don't see it as any kind of a theft risk, and think it would be convenient.

anybody have any ideas for this? maybe it would be possible to make this change in the fusebox? havent had a chance to do too much research yet

I don't see the necessity. It could be done for sure, but not sure why?

 

i had a '87 chevy astro that was rigged that way, the relay was bad and they bridged the power out of the power lock relay that is always "hot". i thought it was a good idea. suppose it starts to rain, you can run right out and roll the windows up without having to locate your keys first. ive not done the mod to anything. (but ive rigged both ignition switches so i dont need keys)

 

My windows are relayed on a constant 12v line. They are aftermarket though so I couldnt tell you how to change the factory wiring. I did it because my keyless entry module connects to the windows and rolls them up every time I lock the truck with the remote. It even better when its raining because I dont have to go outside and get wet lol.

Just be careful how you do it too.
My friend Josh's friend Nick incorrectly wired the harness for Josh's indash cd, he wired the power wire to the "switched" wire. Therefore, Josh always had to manually turn his stereo off when getting out of the Explorer, and could roll the windows down at any time, key or no key. The problem was that the Explorer couldnt sit for more than 3-4 days at a time without killing the battery. FINALLY I got sick of it, pulled the CD player out only to see that Nick had ghetto-rigged it, and wired HOT and switched together...

It was an easy fix. Point is, just be careful how you do it or you might wind up with a dead battery, etc..

 

i found out something weird, for 2 years now my pass side window in the ranger has been dead, stuck "up" havent worried or cared about it much. then a week ago the front drivers window on the taurus quits (luckily, up also) they are both '93s. i checked online and the taurus motor which was only used afew years is 50 bucks, i checked on one for the truck which is the same motor assy from '93-current '08 and its 100. guess i'll just fix the car. if i thought i could get doors cheap enough id get a pair of manual crank ones for the truck. dont think the taurus ever came with anything but power windows. i hate the things, ive never had a manual window fail me, but sooner or later a electric one will just die. i wonder if i can take the guts from a manual window door and "change over" my power windows to manual? the doors are in good shape as far as being rust/dent free.

 

well, a few weeks back my wife was bumped into at a hospital parking lot, just scuffed/paint transfer on the back bumper plastic to the taurus. got a check from the other driver's insurance for $750. so i bought 2 power window motors. turns out the car didnt need it, theres a relay inside the drivers door that makes the "auto down" work. (where you just bump the button for down and it lowers the window fully) i found out the relay was no longer available and bypassed it with a jumper wire. just have to hold the button, like the other 3 windows in the car, big deal. i was able to return the unneeded motor. when i got into the truck door, i found that someone had been in there before, the motor had a napa-rebuilt sticker on it. it was a quick and successfull change-out. took apart the dead motor and it showed signs of water damage. not sure why. i still would rather have manual windows, but for now my power windows work.
