New Ideas And Questions
Alright, I seached around for my first question but to no avail.
These are my rear fenders and I want to know how to fix this. I can't tell if its oxidation or what. It looks like the clear coat is some how peeling off. Any help to fix that short of getting a new paint job would be great.
And how would I go about fixing these scratches on the hood? They appear to be from rocks and crap when the previous owner went off roading, but I cant tell if a simple polishing would work or if more drastic action is needed.
Also, Im basically going for all black of the outside of my truck, I don't have the funds for new wheels at this time, so should I keep the rims the way they are? Or would painting them gloss or flat black look good? Also painting the chrome on the front and rear bumpers?

Your paint is effed. And there is no way you are going to blend rattle can with the factory paint job without it looking like like even bigger *** than it already does. You'll have a blotchy truck with dark and light black.
If you're gonna go the rattle can route, just paint the entire truck satin black. Don't even waste youe time trying to blend and match with the factory paint.

Keep the wheels the way they are. And about painting over chrome. Your gonna have to have it media blasted to get it all off first, or it will just peel in a few weeks. If you want to go black bumpers I would look in a junkyard doing it that way would probally be cheaper than having them blasted and repainted.

Your truck really just needs a full re-paint. With the time and money you are going to put into re-painting the fenders and wet sanding and polishing your hood you could have saved up a bit more money and just got a decent paint job (nothing amazing or OEM quality, but a full sand shot and clear with decent paint). Also, your truck will look better with new paint than it will trying to salvage your own paint.
As for your wheels. Paint them correctly with a semi-gloss black or get them powder coated. If you just walking into a PC shop and ask them to do it you'll pay a hefty price but if you ask around and find someone who does side jobs as a hobby you can usually get a decent deal.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just say screw the paint for now and wait a year or so tell i get a new truck. Maybe ill just throw some clear coat on it and see what that does for me.
On the chrome, I was just gonna paint it like i did the grill. Mask it all off and throw some paint on it. Its worked for me so far, lol. I pry just paint it with a metal paint and see if that works.
Im thinking of doing the wheels with just the cut outs and caps like in the above picture.
I got the blacked out Ebay brand headlights in and an LED third brake light as well. Ill throw some pictures up soon.
Oh and the Ripcurl Stickers are gone, sorry. Replaced long ago, that picture was all I had of the rims and was from Havasu in 2007.

I agree, if youre handy with a rattle can its easy to pick up a spray gun and paint. the results are way better.

Ya ya, lol. I should have but I was too lazy.
One more question. I have see this on other Rangers so I'm not sure what exactly the problem is, but heres whats been happening.
First, whenever i switch into reverse, the back end pops a bit. Can't really describe it that well, but you hear a clunk and the back end pops backwards a bit.
Also, sometimes when im driving(usually above 50) and i let off the gas totally for a second then hit the gas a little bit again, there is the same kind of clunk and pop in the back end.
The tranny went out and I had it rebuilt at about 89k miles and now im at 131k. Also replaced the fluids in the diffs and transfer case about a month ago. Feels like something in the differential or drive shaft abut I could be wrong.
Was hopeing someone here knew or had experienced this at all. Thanks again guys.
