new type of fog light mod

About a week ago someone in the forums posted a thread on how they took their round factory fog lights, opened them up and removed the "shroud" that surrounds the bulb, making it a "flood" light.

Well, yesterday, i opened my fog lights up, removed the shroud and WOW! instead of light going way out to the sides of the road, it is all concentrated on the road in front of the truck!

Thank you to whoever made the original "how to" of this mod. It works great and your instructions were flawless!

Yeah I did this a while back and the light output is retarded. Also I run high beam bulbs so the fog lamps are actually brighter than my headlights.

I'll vouch for this mod. I did it probably a year and a half ago. I run Silverstar Ultras 9005 instead of the 9145 so light output is absolutely amazing!

why do you say the light output is retarded? it's concentrated in front of the truck NOT LIGHTING UP the ditch 25 feet away from the truck.

I don't think he was saying retarded in a negative way.

sorry, i currently don't have a camera.
But it's real easy to do: Theres 3 very small screws on the inside area of the back of the fog light. (2 on the top, 1 on the bottom) remove those screws and the inside of the fog light tilts or "swings" downward, opening it up. Also, there are 2 tabs that you may need a small flat screwdriver to slightly pry apart (CAREFULLY) to get the housing to open up where the shroud is connected to the inner reflector. There is a small screw, remove that screw and the shroud will come out.

I mean retarded like a hell of a lot. Just make sure you put the fog lamps in their correct locations meaning left and right. I didn't and I was lighting up cars next to me. LOL.

i aimed mine last night. the beam is right in front of the truck. otherwise i'd be blinding oncoming cars. these things are bright!

Sounds blinding to oncoming vehicles if not corrected after the mod. And I'm sure they'll be a few that don't properly adjust them after too. Seems right up there with having misaligned HID's. I'd have to see the outcome pics to not give a harsh reaction to the idea.

do the 9005 fit instead of the 9145? whats the diff? i just spent 100 bucks and got all new clear lights up front. i got the 45s for the fogs and removed the shroud. should i take the 45s back and get 9005s?

I just got rid of my gay yellow 9145 fogs and put in normal colored 9005 bulbs, they go right in just as easy as the 9145's but they don't fit as tight so they can wiggle a little if you make them.

more wattage, you're putting headlight bulbs in your fogs

Will the wiring to the fog light hold up to that wattage of the headlight bulbs?

shouldn't be too much of a difference, however, i'd be more worried about the additional heat in a small housing, and melting your lens...
