Hey ya'll been thinking on this one,

How hard would it be to take a piece of approx. 1x1 squared tubing and making it into a LED light bar???

Of course I would have to drill holes in it to put the LED's on (not the diode's), and run the wires together and then run those wires into my tail lights. I would have the same number on each side to run to either the R or L tailight but across the bar. I was figuring on coating the steel tube with a bed liner material to avoid rust and damaging any paint. I'd probably also weld washers to the back side and have a way of bolting it my rear bumper to cover the problem of mounting it.

What do ya'll think? Any electrical problems I should watch for or take care of??

Reason why I want to do this, is that if one of the LED's burns out I can easily replace it, unlike a LED bar which has the individual diode's and those are not fixable if they mess up.

I don't like investing in something that's not fixable if it messes up.

 

I'll just say this mine was $35 bucks and its sealed but you can unseal it and the LED rail slides out...

 

So basically, you could repair an LED if it goes out? My question is how?

Why dont you just buy one of the Line Of Fire led kits that is bolt on and plug and play? Really save you a lot of hassle...

And LED's have about a 100 000 hour lifespan.

 

I never considered repairing my line of fire 'cause the damn things are so cheap by the time it craps out I'll buy a new one.

 

x2. I've had mine for over 2 years........and it's still bright as ever. Doesn't seem worth the hassle to try and make one yourself.

 

I had the itch to make something myself so that I could repair it. I don't mind making something myself if It means it'll be easier to repair ,for like $4 for a LED, than just throw $50 into buying a new one if something happens to one of the lights.

Besides I could customize it the way I want it.

I like to tinker around with stuff. I think there was a How-To submission on here with some other guy that made one himself.
Basically I'm wanting to know if I use the LED's if I need to make any sort of electrical change to the system or if the stock Ranger electrics are fine like they are. I've heard of hyper flashes and stuff like that.
