swapped over to bucket seats, tell me what you think

so i finally got around to swapping over to bucket, i found 2 manual seats, and a center console out of a 98 exploder sport. the seats went in fine exept for the fact that only 2 bolts lined up and i had to drill oujt the interior mounts. mine is a 99. center console wen it fine, but i had to gut out the a/c tubing and wiring to make room for my stick. but the shape and size fit fine. looks amazing. and i love the look. all i gotta do now is find a boot that looks good. and fits. i'll attach pics and leave me some commets and ideas. all are welcome.

Looks good, clean it up a bit.
I am not a fan of the full length console but I like the extra power port, the passenger’s always needs a power cord and they get in the way.
Does your truck have the air bag sw ? If so where is it now ?

my airbag switch is still in the same place, its behind the panel that wraps around the stick shift, i keep it on because i dont carry a carseat. but it can be easily accessed by poppin it off. i am yet to wire in the power port but that is my current project.

Std Cabs vs Ext Cabs… Ext Cabs have an advantage most of the Explorer/MOuntaineer Seats bolt in, Std Cabs need track change.
But yes you can do it !

The short console is easier than the long one, both getting it our of the donor vehicle and installing it.

Is this statement saying you are doing a 5.0 Swap ? It is a little confusing to me, sorry.
Are you talking about Engine Swap Harnesses ?
Aren’t we talking abotu Seats ?
Talk to me about your last post ?

As far as bucket seat go… here is something that is interesting.
If you have a 60/40 Bench Seat and want bucket seats… the passenger’s seat, (the 40% side) is the same as a std bucket seat AND the seat bracket under the driver’s seat of your 60/40 should bolt on to a passenger seat and give you two buckets.
Is that confusing ?

Go to a JY, find a set of Passenger’s Seats the same color and pattern and you can make a set of buckets seats for your truck.

swapping the metal frame from a passenger to a driver side will NOT work for a 94. works wonderfully for 98+, but not 97 and older. however, you can use a passenger foam and cover, and cut the center section off the driver's seat and use the passenger foam.

but the ex seats will be a direct bolt in swap if you have 60/40 already, even being a standard cab. just need to pull the tracks off your seats and bolt them to the explorer seats. don't bother finding power seats in this case as you won't be able to use the power tracks anyways.

If you can unbolt the tracks and bolt them to Ex Seat then why not to other Ranger Seats ?

97 and older seats use 3 bolts to mount the backrest to the bottom. two on the recline lever side, one on the inside. the inside has a little bracket that sticks up for the bolt. so if you were to swap pans side to side, then the mounting holes will not line up.

and as for newer seats into older, 98+ seat tracks do not simply unbolt from the bottom of the seat. the track and recline assemblies are one unit.

98+ seat tracks:

97 and older tracks (same as explorer):

or these (these are actually mustang, but 97 older reg cab look pretty much the same)

93-97 seat frames: green circles are where the inside bolt would be. notice two are passenger sides, and one is driver side. this is why 97 older bottom pans will not swap.

also on the backrest:

and this is an exploded view of a 98-03 seat. see the differences?

Ok then I stand corrected - OWNED !

On my ’03 Seats, to include the 60/40 and the Buckets that replaced them, the track unbolted.
The holes in the pans were the same on both sides of the seat pans.
Either Bucket seat I had would have swapped sides AND the 40% part of the 60/40 would have swapped side so I could have made that a Driver’s Side Bucket.

Sorry for mis-indo on the earlier models guys, I was under the impression they were the same seats.

Now, will a set of late model seat tracks bolt into the Std or Ext Cab Rangers ?

what you said works wonderfully for 98-03 seats. still have to unbolt the small bolt that holds the recline mechanism to the back rest, but can be done. just can't unbolt the tracks and swap them to the explorer/mustang seats like you can with the gen1-3s.

from what i have gathered, all ext cabs (and explorers up to 01 and 03 on the sports/tracs) should be bolt in swaps. little reworking of the seat belt brackets, but that's minor.

reg cabs i haven't seen a straight answer. one guy said he got gen 3 reg cab tracks to bolt in to a 98+ reg cab, while another guy said he had to modify one of the rear holes.

i really want to get a gen 3 and 4 reg cab and ext cab and try swapping them around sometime.

i dunno what generation, but i had to mod a rear hole and i can only get 3 bolts in the seat brackets to the cab. works fine tho.

the 2 door ext cabs should be very similar between gen 3 and 4. i know there is a difference in how the seat belt mounts, but i think the four main bolts for the seats are in the same place.

the 4 door ext cab is probably different, but again, the 4 main bolts should be the same as the 2 door ext cab.

i'm not sure about reg cabs. see one of my previous posts about that. i know the reg cabs gained about 3" behind the doors in 98.

Where I am going with this is IF the floors are the same or close enough then the Seat Tracks may interchange within Cab Style and IF they do then Seats can interchange too !

Good Luck on the Search !
