Dual alternators

Has anyone done it? Can it be done?

I was thinking about getting an extra battery to run all my accessories off and was wondering if there was anyway to hook up an extra alternator to keep the battery charged.

not a lot of room to add the extra alternator.....IF you took the A/C off i could see it being possible with custom brackets, but other than that it wont fit....

thats what i was thinking, theres some 200 or 220 amp ones on ebay. i would also like to run 2 batteries, but, wouldn't that make your electrical system either .5 or double what it is now? so like 6 or 24 volts?

What you need is 2 batteries, and an isolation kit. Both batteries will charge together, but you can drain one while the other one remains at full charge.

as far as making a charging system 24v, that is all in how you wire the batteries together.....if you get a dual battery kit from Painless Wiring, then you won't have to worry about that...

No....2 12V batteries in parallel will still be 12V, with a larger current capacity.
With all the electronics in the new vehicles today, Don't ever try and connect 2 batteries in series, which will give you 24V!

Parallel will be 12v. I had it on my old car without an isolator.

1 High Output alternator is all you want to do......

Running 2 dosen't make sense when HO alternators are very inexpensive......It would coost more to set 2 up.......
