best advice I can give you coming from some one who has alot of money tied up into my prerunner. save up and do it all at once. I know I know you dont want to wait that long, but If I would have done that I would have a truck that is far better off now and more coin in my pocket.
I would say the 1st thing you should do is safety have a full cab cage built.
second get front and rear suspension AT THE SAME TIME. don't do the front and leave the back along very dangerous if you cant do both at the same time do your rear 1st. b/c what ever your front end can handle your rear can. but you dont want to go end over end b/c your rear end couldn't keep up with the front

Start with suspension. Then glass. Then safety. Then work on your motor.
I did mine all cluster****ed. I bought some ****ty pavement pounder 3" spindle lift. So it looks alright. Bought 5 wheels and tires. Then glassworks unlimited fenders. So I need to get real suspension with the front end extended and linked in the rear. What do you think the best would be? A 4 link or a 3?

back from the past. if you plan on putting a cage in your truck do it 1st dont listen to those "suspension 1st" guys. I have seen plenty of truck end up on their lids or roll and they didn't have a cage the truck was totaled. I have seen the same roll and flip with caged trucks and the driver walked away and only body damage. do you want to totaly your truck? stupid is as stupid does. think smart.

If I were you save and try and do everything at once. To build a pre-runner it is kinda a all or nothing thing. I mean you can do it in steps ,it will just take longer and then you gte lost and have too many projects going on at once with it. If I were you save up and try and get the suspension and cage build first. The cage is the number one thing you want to have incase you roll it or things like that. hen do suspension follwed by shocks then rims and tires and glass.

my truck had 3 different bed cages built. 3 different front bumpers built and 1 cab cage. had 3 different front suspensions, and one set of deavers that rock. but I do plan on changing the front and putting coil overs on and 3/4 linking the rear end. if I had saved the money I spend on the bumpers/bed cages/suspension and did it all at once my truck would be much better.
its your truck man do what ever you want with it.

cage first. i dont know how much i would listen to these mid-west east coast dudes about building a desert truck.. or mark.
my opinion, aside from saving up and doing it all at once, is to do the cage first. since the cage is what's gonna keep you alive, for one. Secondly, the cage is such an important part to the rest of the components (ie: shock mounts, seats, glass, etc..) it might be handy to have that in place before everything else. But still, all at once is best, cage first is 2nd.
