I'm not really interested in the bar, but I think it would be a pretty good deal on the lights. Any input on whether or not I should go for it would be great!

Light bar and KC lights

 

usually 2 of those lights go for about $120-130. so it's a good deal. Do you really want 3 is the question.

 

That light bar is WAY wide. i'd buy that just for the lights however, cause he is right, they're like $60-$70 bucks a piece.

 

Yeah, I'm really just interested in the lights. I don't necessarily want 3 lights, but it's since it's such a good deal, it's kinda hard to pass on.

 

Yeah I would get it and sell the bar and build your own.

 

Too big, but you could flip it for a profit.

 

Update!

Been talking to the guy through email. He said he's had the lights for almost 25 years, but barely used them. They still work though, and are in "almost new" condition. They never came with a wiring kit like the new ones do, but he said that he has connectors and other things I can use to wire them up with. He can't remember what the power rating is though.

I think I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on them. KC has 100W daylighters on their site for about $90 a piece.

 

when in doubt buy new i guess lol -warranty, wiring kit, destructions too for those of us that cant figure it out

 

I was able to find the wiring instructions and all the hardware that comes in a new wiring kit online so none of that is a big deal. The wiring kit sells for about $30, but I can probably get everything separately for cheaper than that.

Right now I'm hoping to get something set up with the guy to pick them up later this week.

 

Cut it down and you will still have three mounting points.
Two lights and a CB Antenna.

Wiring that is easy, Wiring Kits are made up of wire that is marginal buy the parts and do your own thing.

Do you have a back rack to mount it to ?

 

I never really thought about using one of the mounts for a CB antenna. I like that idea, but I don't because it just makes me want to buy more stuff lol.

I browsed around on here last night looking at light mounts for the front end. I may end up using all 3 of the lights just because no one else has 3 and because I'm buying them so I might as well use them. It would probably be difficult for me to just sell one light to someone anyways.

I really just looked up the wiring kits to see what all came with them. I figure I can buy everything I need at Home Depot or Radio Shack for cheaper than what KC charges for a kit.

No, I don't have a back rack. Thought about getting one once before, but decided against it.

On a side note, I'm about to leave to go check them out/possibly buy them. I'm hoping they're nice since it's about a 45 minute drive. At least the weather is nice

I bought them! They're a little bigger than I originally thought they were, but I should still be able to mount them up front like I want to. Just have to design and fab some brackets.

The bar is obviously too long for me to use up front, but there are some extra tabs that I can mount the lights on if I cut the bar down. If something happens and I can't mount them up front for some reason, I'll make something to mount them on the back. Or I could always decide to flip them for a profit since I'm sitting on over $200 worth of lights and materials. I definitely have some options here.

I would really like some ideas from y'all on what I should do as far as mounting them up. I browsed around on here last night looking for ideas, but any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Onto the pics!

It looks like that bar was made to sit on top of a jeep or something. I'd keep the lights and sell the bar if it we're me.
Use the tabs and mount them on your front bumper. just two would be pretty cool.

 

Yeah, the guy I bought it from said the bar and lights were on an old Bronco he used to have but he never used them.

How much do you think a bar like that would go for? If I sell it, I'll definitely cut some of the tabs off first. Everything is in great shape.

 

He said he's had the lights for 25 years? If that's the case that is amazing how great the condition is. They look almost brand new.

If you cut tabs off the bar forget about selling it !

Do a search on Light Tabs, there a few guys that have made some nice ones that attach behind the bumper and extend outward to mount the lights over the bumper.

Don’t cut the bar or take anything off of it.

 

I'd sell the bar for like $50 bucks. But yea, don't cut the tabs off, make your own.
to be honest, those tabs look really short to fit in front of or behind the grille.

 

Yeah I think making new tabs is going to be the best route for me to take. Shouldn't be too difficult or expensive to do. I have all the tools I need in the machine shop here at school.


That's not too bad of an idea either considering I have HIDs everywhere else. Is the wiring for HIDs in offroad lights any different than for headlights?

 

No different if you find the right bulb, just plug and play

 

Are these light KC’s 150 watt day-lighters or the 100s, you are going to need this info when wiring.

There is a difference in a set of two from 17 amp vs 25 amps so find out what wattage the lights are.

Since these are older there is a good chance they are 150 watt lights, that was more the norm back then.

If 150w DayLighters then you will need a 40 amp relay and wiring for 30 amps, maybe even a 30-35 amp fuse on the main power wire.

 

I'm honestly not sure. I asked the guy I bought them from and he couldn't remember, but he said he's always been the type to buy the biggest of everything so he assumed they were 150s. How would I find out for sure?

 

Look for a part number than chk with KC, easiest.

Other than that wire for the high amperage and there should be no problem.
I use 10 ga feed wire for all of the off-road lighting, will not hurt.

The lower wattage lights will thank you for putting in wiring to handle any higher amperage if they need it… LoL. With larger gauge wire the lights will burn their brightest. and last longer.

added: just thought… the 150 are sealed beams, the lower wattage is a bulb, not sure if there are different bulb for those lights but maybe.
I think in the older lights there were either 150s or 100s the 130s came in later.

 

I looked all over and couldn't find any part numbers. However, the lights don't have bulbs so I guess it's the higher wattage light if you're correct.

What all would I need to wire these up assuming they're 150W lights?
