I used to have a Berlinetta with the digital dash, and I later put one into my RS; those were sweet digital dashes.

 

I've never seen a digital dash retrofit that I liked.

Exactly! Digital guages are more percise but much harder to tells trends by. Watch the needles, love the needles.

 

I want to get an A/F ratio gauge that I can fit into the lil spot where the auto gear monitor would have gone.

I like watching the needles...but digital is nice. I kinda like the pacifica gauge cluster with the navigation in the cluster as well.

I've been toying w/ a possible project for quite some time now. The idea is that I would put a small 1 or 2 line LCD display in that spot where the auto tranny indicator would be. The display would be run by a small microprocessor. This embedded system would then also interface w/ the PCM via the OBD-II interface under the dash. The display would then be able to show time/date, speed, engine RPM, etc etc. I'd also like to figure out how to compute estimated gas mileage and range in real-time.

John Griggs was once fueling me w/ advice and ideas. I bought two backlit displays a while back when my company put in an order for a project at work. I have a development kit for a microprocessor too. I even have plans for an interface to the OBD-II interface. What I don't have is the time to do anything about it. The parts have been sitting on my work bench for months. My dissatisfaction w/ my truck (8 dealer service visits in the first 9 mo of ownership!) has had a lot to do w/ this..

 

The TT has navigation in the cluster too, I didn't order it because I can read a map.

I've got a list of 11 items that need to be fixed under warranty on my truck at this time. I keep a pad and pencil in the center console so I can keep track of them all as they happen.

I too can read a map, in fact I consider myself pretty good at it. My GF gets lost in a paper bag, map or otherwise. She bought a Toyota last year w/ the in-dash nav system. I have to say, it kicks ***. Even just for the tech nut in us all, the intergated GPS based nav systems are pretty fun. It also gives realtime ETA and such. Even has a traffic avoidance mode. If you run into a jam and don't feel like waiting it out, you tap a few buttons and it finds a work-around. Very nice when you are in unfamiliar areas. Wish my bike had that sometimes!

It even finds near-by hotels and resturants. We took her car cross country last year and it was a godsend when we were in strange areas and just wanted to find the local Perkins or what have you for some grub..

I should do this. Instead I'm dumb enough to sit down and try to figure out what the problem is BEFORE I bring it to the dealer. Partly because if it's simple enough, I'll fix it myself and partly because I'm just so sick of seeing my dealer's face and hearing "Yeah, we're gonna have to order some parts, we'll call you next week to set up another appointment."
