Really? I never knew that. Oh well, hopefully there was no damage! The truck did come straight from the factory so I am sure it wasn't too bad. Well 2000 more km until I change it, I can't wait!

I've been using Mobil 1 5w-30, with a Motorcraft FL820s filter, for years. I too have heard/read great things about Pennzoil Platinum, and have considered switching. If you do use it, I don't think you can go wrong.

That sucks more than words can say....

Well still keep me informed on the pennzoil, I have read some great things on it. A lot of people are saying it is as good or better than mobil 1 and a better price.

i have never tryed it and do keep us informed!

i have used motocraft full syn and i think it does not last long at all and it gets black quick

mobil 1 i normaly use cant go wrong with it

and My Favorate is Quakerstate i think its Horse Power full synthetic seems to last forever and my truck seems to run so much smoother compared to the rest.

and i also use the motocraft filter every time.

Well I am coming up to the time to change my oil and lets just say I am switching back to Mobil 1! I dont know if it's my engine or what but when I used this oil my oil pressure dropped at least 7 psi and the engine does not seem to have as much power as before the change and you need all the power you can get with a 3.blow! lol

I bought Valvoline all the time until the price went up - last year it was $1.76 for the plain dino oil, but now it's $3.99 - $4.19 a quart around here.

Every oil change I've done in the Ranger has been Pennzoil 5W-30. Never noticed any problems with it.
Guess others have had issues, but really I think it's all their heads.

Good to know.

From like 25K to like 55K it wasnt mine so it got conventional. 55-65K it got walmart synthetic, now she gets mobil one with either a KN filter or a mobil 1 filter.

Old Thread, but I use Quakerstate or Mobil 1.

Amsoil isnt really that great when you look at independent studies.

As often as I change my oil, (7,000-10,000 miles) it doesnt really matter, though.

i tried it when it first came out cause they had in store rebates that brought the price down dirt cheap. I didn;t like it. I had to add oil before I got to 5,000 miles. I never had to do that with Mobile 1.

My former '02 Ranger Edge had motorcraft w/filter every 3k......lately, it runs with whatever Korey wants lol.

I had Pennzoil Plat for the '94 Taurus and the mpg went up slightly but gone down ever since I switched to something else. My '02 Taurus SEL currently runs synthetic blend Kendall 5w20. Maybe i'll switch back to Pennzoil Plat for the 02.

After seeing this R-F thread: https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ht=Series+2000 I decided to go with Amsoil, and I decided to use the Ea oil filter.

Also oil guy postings like this: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...48#Post1311148

And the fact that some of my friends have been using Amsoil for years and haven't had any problems.

We've always used Pennzoil, and never had any trouble out of it, that all I ever had in my Ranger!

I was using Castrol Sytech with a quart of Lucas and I would change it every 5000 miles but next time it will be Amsoil and I will change it every 7500 miles. I don't believe all the internet bs about Amsoil being crap. I'm sure a bunch of Royal Purple lovers started that. I know real people that use it in their vehicles and a few on here that use it as well with no problems.

I've been running synthetic since I got the truck. Fram Tough Guard filter. Even after running a 7,000 mile filter for over 10k (no place to change the oil on campus) the oil had no sludge or gunk. It didnt even really need a change that bad. I used nothing but mobil one for 2 years then lately (last 3-4 changes) I've hopped between Quakerstate and Mobil 1. It was quakerstate on that change. Seemed to me that quakerstate held up longer than Mobil one, but that is bassed on color alone. I dont have any sort of spectrometer to actually test oil brakedown (though I want one...chem major, ie nerd).

My buddy's dad put Mobil 1 synthetic in his farm/towing truck (brand new Ram 2500 diesel at the time) and ran it for 70,000 miles just changing the filter every 5,000 and topping her off. When he pulled the valve covers while doing a turbo upgrade he said the valves were clean as a whistle.

They say a good synthetic doesnt brake down unless it is put to EXTREME use.
