Bumping the pictures because that thing needs to be seen twice. Awesome.

Effing upper balljoints have only been 1 of many issues getting my axles together, but it's a surprising one.

Rockauto has never let me down in 7 years, even after the 2nd mistake I had hope. Not to worry though, I'll still order from them. Now that I got to the bottom of it.

Anyway, I tried ordered upper balljoints for my D30 and of course I went with Mood Problem Solvers. I went to Rockauto and ordered the ones for my axle and a few days later my buddy calls and says they don't fit.

I thought he was messing with me. I didn't get a pic of them on the axle but I have a side by side comparison.

See? Not even close. Apparently Moog has 2 different style balljoints with the same part number. Rockauto must not know this, even the local O'Reiley's or Autozone didn't know, they had the incorrect ones.

Luckily another parts store had the correct ones. For future reference, here is what you'll need to look for

This is the correct one

This one doesn't fit.

The only way to know the difference is to take them out of the box and look, since they both have the same part number it makes it very tricky.

I'm emailing Rockauto about this to see what they know.

That's weird. Two completely different ball joints with the same part number.. How does that even happen? Haha

I'm not sure. I called Rockauto today and they don't understand either.

In truck news, my D30 is done, just need a few more things for the 8.8

Maybe they made two different axles that year? Who knows haha. Right on! When do you think you'll get them under the rig?

Probably take the truck to the shop next weekend. As long as everything goes smooth on the 8.8.

Technically I could start on the front now, but I don't want to take up space in his shop any longer than I have to

Things to do on the axles:
Finish the brakes
Weld the tubes on the 8.8
plate the UCA tower

Truck surgery starts the week of 2/9, there is a tractor in the shop that my friend wants to finish

Awesome. Can't wait to see this thing get started. Are you doing lockers with the gears? What size tires are you gonna run? Trying to go much taller or leave it lower?

Rear is already a limited slip, so I'll probably wait until my engine build to do any lockers.

I'll have 35's soon enough to go with the 4.88's

The coils are a 6.5" lift for an XJ, with my adjustable buckets I'll probably be at around 6-7" of lift from stock on a Ranger.

I might have missed it, but what are you doing for the rear lift? Something like Skyjacker?

The rear is undetermined until the front is dialed in. I have an AAL, shackles, and 2 sets of blocks to mess with for the rear.

Once the front is sitting where I want it I'll take more measurements, but I'd to just replace the rear springs, possibly with Deavers.

I can't stand seeing huge blocks. If it was me I'd just spend money on deavers and a shackle mount that drops them down an inch or two

Yup, what they said. I'll use a combination of the parts I have to get an idea of what I'll have to order to finish it up.
