50 Dollar Paint Job

Yeah... I really don't care about the window frames/mirrors/door handles. I'm going to have them all powdercoated black. So anyways. If anyone has an old car to mess with, or a fridge lying around, I suggest you try this. You do have to play around with the mixing ratio of paint to mineral spirits, but hey I'm 19 and am no means mechanically inclinded and it looks like I know what I'm doing. Thats two coats- now I have to wetsand. The underlying color will be covered up completely by the 4th coat.
The door has blue under it because I tried blue paint that wasnt rustoleum and it did NOT mix with mineral spirits. It was like oil and water. (haha duh) I just sanded it some and went for it. Just like any other paint job, the PJ is only going to be as good as the effort you spent in prepping. I just went over the really rough spots with midium rough sand paper.
I bought 400 grit wetsand paper. Is this too rough?

Actually, I've seen it work. There's a guy who has done it and it came out extremely well. Looks exactly like a professional did it. Props to ya.

Looks better then some of the crap I've seen. There was a guy around my old place that used a roller and some yellow Tremclad to paint his truck, and another guy spray painted his Cavalier bright blue with Tremclad rattle cans. What some people think sometimes, I have no clue.

I think it's looking good so far. Make sure to let us know what the final product looks like and how it holds up.

Hey, I've had a friend attack his truck with a roller, this looks pretty good compared to that. The best cheap job I have done was two coats, primer then paint, both rusteolum, it looked pretty good when done (people wanted me to do their trucks).

Lets see some finished pics.
