99ranger4x4s SAS thread

78 F150 HP D44 (failed... shoulda gone 77)
-Full Spool
-5.13s
-Mile Marker hubs
-Stock 30 spline inners and 19 outers

Yoda box
-$203 worth of **** from PSC - nevermind... $300
-All Pro Pitman arm

Waggy Springs
-Stock waggy shackles

Lots of 3/8" plate
some smaller DOM tubing
some 1.5"x.250" DOM tubing

9"
-5.13s
-31 spline
-locker - undecided
-brake setup - undecided

i wont be able to have any pics of the during process since i'm doing it in school. but i'll have after pics in about 3 weeks.. i'm hacking all the stuff off hopefully by Friday.

this will just be the bare minimum.. i have access to TIG and MIG welders, along with tubing benders, a verticle mill, lathe, drill press and some other fun stuff so i'm taking the opportunity and getting the hardest part out of the way then i will slowly build it up from there as more money rolls in. i will only be putting the front axle in for now as i ran out of money so i cant get all the stuff to get the 9" under my truck right away.. which also means no 4wd :(

since you jumped in, about where in your build thread is the size/types of fittings for the p/s hoses? i went to like 20 skipped to ~30 and went to like 68.. and didn't see anything?

i still need
-PS hoses
-Shocks
-steering stabilizer

before i can really drive it.. the p.s hoses at a minimum

and Zach, the 3/8" is for the spring perches, i'll probably make the spring hangers out of 1/4"

this thread here talks about how to setup your power steering lines. I would assume the 4.0 OHV is similar.

https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=70000

I thought you were going to plate the frame with 3/8", my bad.

Buy a cheap Detroit off of Ebay for the rear axle and buy a Lockright or Aussie locker for the front, much better than a spool.

i got
f/r gears
front spool
front install kit
9" housing and 3rd member
28 spline axle shafts
31 spline axle shafts
disc brake backing plates
calipers

for 600.. so the spool will work for now. besides, my last setup was basically spooled because the aussie was setup wrong.
Thanks Gildo

oh yea, carnage report from the front end

the Ring and pinion still look good, as well as the Aussie locker if anyone wants them..

the pinion nut came loose and drove the teeth into the carrier when i went in reverse... the inner CV joint on the pass. side completely spins inside itself, so all that is stripped out, and i twisted the inner splines that go in the diff on the driver side CV shaft

both wheel bearings are shot, thats the second driver one that i've destroyed

all the ball joints i JUST replaced 4 months ago, they're gone already...

i think thats all i have to report right now.

if anyone wants any thing let me know, im gonna take the CV shafts into advance and have them swapped out under warranty and sell them for a super low price.. brand new

the wheels are sold
RCD has a waiting list lol
manual hubs, i have 3 i need to sell, ones still in the box
the aussie locker is also up for sale

i dont think theres much more worth selling

first change of design.

i'm building new shackes out of 1/4" plate and they are going to be mounted through the frame rails, this will give me more adjustibility on where i want to put the leaves, before i had very few options

and there's gonna be a 2x4x.250 cross member up front, which im going to put a front receiver into and just build a simple stinger/boner bar off that... so i have some sort of bumper lol

i dont WANT to run a spool up front but i have been for the past 2 years basically. i want a selectible locker, but i dont have the money for it right now

like i said, i got it for a good price and i needed a new carrier anyways.. as for road manners, thats what the manual hubs i just got are for.

From someone who actually runs a spool, not who knows someones buddy who's cousin ran one back in the day.

They work. They're cheap. If you need them to unlock, hop out and unlock the hub. Hydro assist is recomended, but when your on the gas and turning, no matter what kind of locker is in the front, it will be just as "hard" to turn as a spool.

thats how i feel.. just didn't exactly know how to say it. when i get the money... if i still want it i'll buy a selectable locker but the spool will do for now.

the truck wont be driven in 4wd on the street.. i made it through the winter in Wyoming with 2wd and like i said before, the aussie was basically a spool so my passengers got very good at hopping out and unlocking a hub then locking it back in and i've got accustomed to dealing with the lack of steering ability
