That motor will definitely move that truck pretty good, since your truck weighs so much less than the trucks the engine came from.
Even at the crank it won't be close to those numbers, but you will have fun with it.
Hopefully this guy gives you more details on the engine build and what not, I'm really curious since I have one these engines. FWIW, the 400M is basically the same engine, but just has more torque (different internals like the crank)

Its bored 60 over, larger cam, lifters etc. I don't know everything that was done to it.
But needless to say, it will be going in this truck and I will have a hell of a time with it.
Technically yes, I have already paid him for everything, I just have to drive up to pick it up in two weeks.

In your pic it had the stock heavy *** intake with 2 barrel carburetor.
If you look on line they can get some decent HP from the 351-400. But yours looks stock.

You can't bore a 351m anything more than .30 over. The 351m is the same block as a 400. My dad is building one for his bronco. Just different crank, pistons and harmonic balancer.
In your pic it had the stock heavy *** intake with 2 barrel carburetor.

It's hard to categorize Ford motors under big block and small block, those terms usually apply to Chevy motors. Most people call the 351/400M as a big block since it shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 429/460
Now that you have an engine from the 73-79 era, there is plenty of information to be found on 73-79 Fords, I've been on there for years. But there is also 335 Series motors, which applies directly to your motor

Well I got a little busy today with what time I had left. On wednesday I went and found a waggy 44, and found some new but used knuckles, rotors with warn locking hubs, shafts, and other misc berings and stuff. Only thing I need now or some spindle bearings. When I got the 44 it was in rough shap, but The internals were clean, and for 100 buck I couldnt pass it up. And as of today this is how it sits. I forgot to take pictures of it before the clean up, but I did take afters. I even made a nice little stand for it so I don't use up my jack stands. I ended up painting it with a few coats of dsg. Think it turned out pretty good.

I can't run an 8.8 bub, ill go through more 8.8s with this motor than I would a 9. Its not a 5.0, its a 5.8 lol
