Pastfinder's 2010 XLT 4X4 Interior Upgrade

Greetings to All,

I had a 2002 Edge which I tricked out with every do-dad imaginable. Well, I just bought my late father's 2010 Ranger XLT 4x4. He had a Leer cap installed, Linex bedliner, huskyliner floor mats and it came with full skid plates, tow hooks, and a rear hitch. For now my focus is on the interior.

A recent junkyard trip resulted in what I hope to install: OHC, Auto-dimming mirror, lighted explorer visors, mustang dome light, and the third brake light with side lights. I hope to do the full auto window mod but don't believe this is feasible with the newer Ranger wiring. I already bought a center console (the short console, not the full-length explorer console) and just have to cut the seats to install.

In terms of the OHC wiring, I have found the information to make this work on a 2008+ Ranger (thanks Bob!). I lucked out today and pulled an OHC, autodimming mirror, and lighted sunvisor arrangement all from the same vehicle and have the intact wiring harness. The visors should be straight forward with the power and ground all linked up with the OHC's equivalent.

The auto-dimming mirror wiring is the big question mark area. The newer Rangers have the fog lights and headlights all integrated into one switch. I ask if rwenzing has any idea as to wiring. I bought the 2010 Ford Ranger wiring schematics book and plan to compare to the 2002 Ranger wiring when time permits. Ultimately it comes down to aligning wire colors as Ford opted to change everything.

Another question to ask regards the dome light and rear brake light. Here too I pulled the wiring harness for the rear light together with the dome light wiring points. There is a hot and a ground from what I can tell. Can someone point me to the "how to" so I can add in wiring, or who where I need to tap things in?

And since everyone wants to know what the vehicle looks like, here you go :)

Well, a junkyard run proved profitable. I snagged an OHC, auto-dimming mirror, and sun visors all out of the same Explorer together with the complete harness. A Mustang dome light and a Ranger brake light with cargo lights completed the mix. I purchased online a center console with bracket and armrest, although I grabbed a different front cupholder section in case the one on the console does not fit.

In terms of wiring, everything but the auto-dimming mirror is relatively straight forward on the 2010 Ranger. Can anyone provide guidance on wiring up an auto-dimming mirror in a post-2008 Ranger? I bought the schematic book to at least explain all wiring in the vehicle.

Well, got most everything I wanted wired in installed today. This includes the Explorer lighted mirrors, OHC, and Mustang dome light. I have the wiring in place for the auto-dimming mirror, but am not aware of any schematics for a 2010 Ranger to mount it in. I do want to add it as soon as practical.

Anyhow, here are some before and after photos of the stock interior and my changes. Enjoy!

Cutting down the driver's seat (with the installed airbag) took a while, but it is finished and the center console installed. Now to figure out the auto dimming mirror wiring for a 2010 Ranger....

Random tip on shaving the foam on the 60/40 mod: a cooking grater does wonders to make a nice even fit and finish.
