Putting a 1999 quad cab and bed on my 2004 rolling chassis.

Hey guys,

I'm putting a 1999 Harvest Gold 4-door extended cab and bed on my 2004 rolling chassis. The 1999 came from Northern Ohio where they salt the hell outa the roads, so I need to replace the core sopport. I'm going to be painting the body black and putting a 2004 front end back on it with a 2006 + grille and clear corners. I'm also replacing all the tan interior with dark grey and grey interior.
I've only worked with 2004 and up Rangers before, so all this is new to me. I didn't think there would be so many differences between a 1999 and a 2004, but there is.
I'm gutting the 1999 cab and installing all the 2004 parts that I got from my doner truck.
The biggest difference I see is that the 99 fuse box harness doesn't go through the passenger side firewall, so I'll have to cut a hole for it.
If anyone here knows why Ford started putting a fuse panel on the passenger side in 2004 please let me know.

Here's a few pictures of the progress

Hey Morris,

When I say it's a quad cab I don't mean it's a crew cab. A quad cab is a 4-door extended cab. I always said 4-door extended cab Ranger before, but I noticed most people on here refer to their 4-door extended cab as a quad cab.

I want to pull the cab off my truck to swap the engines, your homebrew solution is one of the better ones I have seen on the net.

I need help deciding on the paint color.
I'm going to be repainting the truck, becuase there's a few scraches and dings that need to be fixed, but I don't know if I should stick with the Harvest Gold or paint the truck black.
I'm going to be putting all dark grey 2004 interior parts back in the truck and I don't know how that would look with the HG exterior color. Is there even a Harvest Gold Ranger out there with the dark grey interior?
The HG paint is more expensive because it's a metallic paint but I wouldn't need very much of it. If I paint the whole truck black then I'll need to strip all the paint off, prime it ect ... which would be a lot of work.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Brian

You don't have to strip the paint off to change colors. A high solids color like black will cover it right up. If your concerned you can just use sealer before you paint. I would vote for black , blue or dsg

Yeah, I'm leaning more towards black, because I think it would go a lot better with the dark grey interior and I'm glad I don't need to strip off all the old paint.

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 8530)

You could always do something different, like the newer metallic green used on some of the Mustangs. That would go good with the gray interior.

I'd vote black. but i like stuff you don't see everyday. (why i stuck with the purple) so i'd say go for like a Grabber Blue truck or something like that.

Ive only done small paint jobs but have done a lot of bodywork like rebuilding wrecks. I think i'd go with the harvest gold or a silver and then dark gray interior.

I'll get some pics posted soon ... I pulled all the power stuff from one of the doors I got from you yesterday. That bottom of that door was rusted worse than I thought. That thing must have taken on a lot of salt.
Btw ... how do you get the metal track out of the way to pull the power motor out?

Its got a bolt in it you have to remove. Pull the window seal out of the channel and it should pull up and out of the door....its been a while since I did one.
