Tie rod was hitting the spring pocket, so a custom one was in order. This will get powder coated black. This was done by hand on a lathe, and no I did not do it. Pretty impressive though:

Closing up the cargo area. The sheet metal will step up and fully enclose the shock tower. Raw metal and summer monsoon storms don't mix:

Added a mount and wiring for a CB antenna. Race radio wiring and antenna mount already added through the roof. I am thinking about stepping down to a 3' antenna. The 4' seems super tall:

Head liner back in:

Thanks! It feels great to rip that stuff out. These engine compartments are so small that there isn't much room to move things around.

If I remember right, I think that the uppers had zerk fittings from Dixon and we added zerk fittings on the lower arms. I could have that backwards.

Picked up the Explorer today. My job over the weekend will be to replace the interior and wire my radios and accessories. Here are some pictures from when I picked it up tonight. Oh... did I mention that it is painted?

Next week it will get it's final touches for now, a front bumper and a mounted Baja Rack. By next Friday it should be ready to roll to CA for the Offroad Expo!

looks like its going to haul ***.

not to be a killjoy, but that rear is kinda weird looking to me lol. would look good if the whole truck was widened. front doors as well.

but the workmanship and parts are awesome!

Nope. It is going to stay gold. All 4 corners are painted to match. At least as well as new paint can match 14 year old factory paint.

It did really well. I need to slow down my upper compression a bit more as I was blowing through my travel on bigger hits. The truck did not buck and handled the small to medium range stuff without any complaints. 4x4 has an issue that needs to be resolved - dash lights indicate that it is engaged, but I do not believe that it is working. It is also a bit of a challenge to run jeep style canyons given the lower COG and wider width. I am glad that it is not my daily as it is loud inside with the cage and bypasses.

Intended to be a desert bomber, but as I found out on this trip sometimes desert canyons lead to situations where rock crawling is necessary to complete the trip.
