Project $250 beater..

So this is my 2nd post here on R-F, it's a nice place to be...

I picked my 1993 supercab xl for $250 last summer, mostly as a beater because the deal was too good to turn down.. The truck had been the shop truck at the chemical plant my dad supervised, and they were pretty much writing it off..

So I picked it up..4x4 with less than 40k on the odometer....the truck runs strong, looks ok...the only real downside is that about 2 months before I bought it, someone junked the driver's door... So, I picked up a junkyard door, and headliner, and drove the truck this winter...

Now, I'm going to pharmacy school in the fall in southern VA, in the coalfields, and I have no interest in taking my slammed, near flush, and nice Camry down there to get dirty, so, in comes the truck...haha

This is the only pic I have of the truck right now, I will get some more once school is out next week...

My plans are:
Explorer seats and console(already purchased) (i'm ready for cupholders
Clear headlights and corners(already purchased)
new locks
plaid interior
Small stereo system(mostly purchased)
Paint door(soon)
15x8 Cragar V-5(ordering tonight) with some used 31s for a while
Front valence with fogs
Pro-comp light bar w/ some KCs
Window tint(duh)
3' PA bodylift
33x12.50x15 BFG ATs
custom bed-mount tire carrier
Ventvisors
crappy plastic toolbox i got for free
painted flares, grille, mirrors, etc..
remove grandpa deluxe mudflaps..

and some other stuff I'll add as it comes...

This will all be done before August, so stay tuned for a lot of updates, starting next week...I figure I can make it a nice little semi-presentable rowdy truck for under 2 grand....

Any advice you guys could give me on anything would be amazing...

And this is the Camry that I normally drive, it's about 2.5 inches higher than it should be because the roads are so bad...

I never realized there were aftermarket parts like that for a Camry. I've seen body kits on 07+ Camrys but not the ones before. Great deal on the truck though!

Nice deal!

Why a body lift when suspension lifts are sooo cheap for that thing? Anyone else know if just a body will let it clear 33's? I thought that you have to do more to the ones with the TTB front?

show me a cheap suspension lift for a '93...and i'll buy it...but i haven't came across any...

and from what i've read, a 3inch BL will clear 33s..

versus around 160 dollars for a 3inch PA BL..and with a body lift, i don't have to worry about putting much stress on 17 year old suspension components.... I think i'll stick with a body lift.. keep in mind that i bought this truck for $250...i'm not looking to spend a fortune on it, nor do i plan to off-road it very often...

am i right in thinking i can run 33s on the truck with a 3inch BL...that's what i was thinking and had read..

ok, finally a day without rain clouds.. .

15x8 Cragar V-5 3.75in bs on real old 31x10.5x15 Cooper Vagabonds. The tires will be replaced shortly by either BFG ATs or some Wranglers...

I love the stance improvement, so much better...

The BL and 33s have been put on hold, as I am not really ready or willing to re-gear or axle swap at this time... However, some other small junkyard finds will likely find their way onto the truck in the near future..namely new door panels and a little net thingy for the back of the cab out of another supercab... Clear corners and headlights will be going on in the morning...Paint on the blue door maybe next week...

the truck has the 3.slow with what i would assume are 3.73s(it keeps raining and i haven't had time to get under to check.) either way, from the way it drives now I wouldn't want 33s with the current gearing...I've been checking the yards though, an axle swap or regear is totally do-able, just don't really want to spend the money on it...

And I'm going to school in Grundy, The Appalachian College of Pharmacy....

major updates coming hopefully tomorrow!! truck is now one color, flares and grill has been painted, tint, visors, and cd player is in... toolbox is mounted(i'm iffy on it, may pick up some edge bedrail caps) , and explorer seats are in. right now i have a full length expo console mocked up, but am heading to the jy tomorrow to look at other options...

all that is left now are new tires, new battery and exhaust, tune-up, and plaid interior..as well as some other stuff haha(we all know modding is never done)

Good news and bad news...

Good news, got some BFG AT KOs mounted on friday, and picked up some Hella 500s, and some 06 tails....

Bad news, had to have the truck towed home today. Probably lost a transmission, and I'm thinking something in the motor... We will see what happens when I have time to get it on a lift.

And I looked at your truck when I was ordering my wheels silverfox...i was going to go with those exact tires, but wally world wouldn't put them on because they were "too big" for my truck.....

anyway, we will see what happens with the truck...hopefully it is just a transmission, but i was having some oil sensor mishaps in the last couple weeks, so i'm not sure what the true culprit was... it will have to wait, as i'm going to the beach next week...

$250 is a great deal. Even if you have to drop some money in it to get it the way you want, or even running....
