I haven't been on here for a while, so I think I will start my build. Allow me to introduce my ranger. She is a 1994 ford ranger XLT model tow package. It is equipped with the big brother 4.0l along with a 5 speed manual transmission and 4WD with 135k miles. I wanted a Powerstroke for a first vehicle, but I just couldn't afford one yet. Instead I bought the ranger from a family friend who used it to do farm work a lot. I wasn't so stoked about it, but Once I started driving it around, I feel in love with it. I knew this is the farm truck for me. When I first got it, there was a lot of work to be done on it. I bought it for $2k and I thought it was a fair offer. So I think I should begin the build. When I first got it. It was bone stock and was a little boring. Remember, I use this as a farm truck, so I'm not gonna go crazy on it. I might add a 2 inch lift or leveling kit, but That is about how big I'm gonna go. With no doubt, I will add 31's on it later on when I'm due for new ones. Here it is when I first got it.

Here are the pics of the engine. As you could see, there is a cold air intake. I tried it out and it worked good. Everything costed about 60 bucks including the filter and adapter. I would of kept it on, but since I work on a farm, I go through dirt and mud everyday. I took it off because I was afraid it could ruin a good engine. So back to the stock air intake.

Somewhere in February, I had to replace my clutch and slave cylinder. For about 1 1/2 years of going through hard shifting and a worn out clutch, I thought it was time. I did the work with a family friend because it was cheaper and I could a few things on how a clutch works. Without Ian, I would still be working on it! The whole process took about 3 weeks and cost only 300 bucks on parts.
First thing I did was put it on jack stands and take out the driveshaft.


Than I took out the shifter.

What a mess...

I was a little bored today, so I put wood in my toolbox as an organizer. It looks clean and a lot more organized. I also painted my engine cover, air flow tube, and the air box. I don't have pics of it until next week, but I do have a couple of the cover.

thoughts of cleaning the engine bay?

 

You know, that's what I thinking about doing today. I have never done it because I always get it dirty. Do I just use a sprayer and spray away or what? Is there spots to not hit or get wet?

 

I know people use Purple Power cleaner and let it sit on a warm engine for a bit then spray it off...as long as your just spraying it and not flooding it you dont need to cover anything. Theres quite a few threads on it. I know 06RangerXLT has dont it with before and after pictures.

 

Will it hurt the air filter than?

 

If you keep it in the box, I don't see how. It's like driving in the rain, don't flood the engine bay, just a spray to get the gunk off. The cleaner does most of the work.
