project #2: '79 RX-7

okay i know what your thinking...whats wrong with this kid doing 2 cars at the same time?!?!

the idea behind this one is to get the 7 running to be able to take the truck off the road for a while to fix the issues with the truck engine wise...plus its a little bit better on gas plus its been on craigslist for awhile and no one wants it

Okay to do list for it to run:
1-carb...cleaning it tonight...may need to be rebuilt
2-gas tank(the one I have is completely rusty..dad said put it on but i refuse. trying to find like a 10-15gallon fuel cell)
3-tires..one doesn't even have tred left on it, down to bare belts
4-brakes...the pedal goes to the floor

That's all it needs to run but it needs quite a few interior parts....but lets focus on the running part first.

Well carry oil in the car with you at ALL times. Rotaries are babies, they need care and attention. Dont rev it high til it is warmed up. Apex seals are not fun replace. I have a 87 and 89.

i picked this up last summer for $300...I'm thinking its very worth it to get her running...plus when I park it next to my truck it looks like its baby..lol and I know it goes through a lot of oil, and its in its natural running ways to burn off the oil

Yea, one of mine burns cooland instaed of oil. I dont feel like rebuilding the engine so I just add before I drive. If the rotary ever gives you a problem, v8 swaps are very common.

I took the top off the carb last night and filled the bowls with gas(over a bucket) and opened the throttle wide open and nothing came out..so I think its really gummed up...

tonight I plan on taking the jets off one by one and cleaning them out with a needle so long as i get a decent amount done on my center console in the truck

Opening the throttle won't make gas come streaming out, you need airflow through venturies to generate vacuum using the Bernoulli effect to draw the gas through the jets.

Still, a thorough cleaning never hurts.
