opnion on buying a ranger

my friendhas a 97 ranger 4x4 he wants to sell me for 500 bux... its on 33's with a 3 inch suspension, ttb suspension with a 8in rear end, it had a automatic tranny, and the vacuum 4 wheel drive system. Someone replaced the tranny and transfer case with manual 5 spd and manual case, passenger side hub is shot and the way they cut the floor for the tranny, cant find 1st and the tranny seemed like it might need to be rebuilt, the motor burns oil, body is in ok shape, primer paint no rust with a marine sunroof, i have plans of making it my hunting truck, i will take the ttb out and put in a sas d44 out of a 250, i want the wider wheel base to keep the tires in their own ruts cause the everglades mud is unforgivable. is it worth the 500 bux as a large project at hand, and has anyonr done the switch from auto to manual? i need advice and opinions

Dont do it man. The short wheel base will kill you and once you put the sas in there the center of gravity will tip you right over.

do it. for $500 thats not a bad deal if you already know what you need to do to the truck. and if sas on a ranger is such a bad thing that you will tip over so easy.... why do so many people do it?

he lives in florida it's pretty flat down there so tippin over wont be a problem, but if i was you i would get a ranger with a good motor and trans and start from there, unless you wanna spend the time and money building a good hunting

I wonder how big of a set of tires you would need to float a ranger, My buddy was telling me the other day that if he puts 35's on his samurai it will float

samurai's are light but i don't see 35's making it float, maybe some nice wide 39's might work for a samurai lol

I figured it out a while ago, for a math project that I was doing for school, but I don't remember it now. I'll try and find it somewhere, I think it was around the lower 40" range? Probably wasn't to accurate though...
