Shaving the tailgate

I decided to shave my tailgate...because I dont have nothing better to do, and I wanted to get even more experience with welding, and blending paint (i've never blended paint before). I started saturday and have been working on it a good bit yesturday and today. I didn't want to spend the money to get a relocator plate and filler plate, so I made my own. I didn't get any pics while making the relocator plate, or welding in the filler plate I made, so this is what I have...the filler plate is all welded in and the emblem holes are welded up.

what about customizing something like the door poppers? except have the tailgate on a hydraulic ram? you could have one....that would be sweet.....then you could keep the tonneau...

They sell kits like that, its just a actuator that is controlled by remote. Saw it on Trucks a while back. It was pretty sweet.

I just stuck those screws in to hold the panel on. When im finished, im going to cut a hole in the plastic bedliner piece that goes on the tailgate for the handle and put the torqx (sp?) screws back in.

Here's another thats the same price. I've seen this one in Truckin' magazines before http://a1electric.com/Merchant2/merc...duct_Code=TG-1

screw a roll pan, you might as well drive around with no bumper at all..

think about it, you get hit, whats there to protect the frame and everything else under the roll pan?
thats right, nothing.

on topic, thats going to look really nice when its done, but if i remember correctly, you shouldn't have filled it all the way in with weld.

I' ve been planning on doing mine, but couldn't figure out how I was going to get in with my cover, now it's the second thing on my list, I'm glad I looked at this.
