i ment, oem OR performance parts.

plans are to drive it ha.

i got back from vacation today and picked it up, they put a new alt in and now its fine, something was messed up with the regulator on the rebuilt one, they had the truck for a few days and only charged me for the new belt i had them put on and the tiny bit of labor for that, otherwise doing tests on it for 2 + days was free.

i need to get some exhaust work done so it actually sounds nice. ha

Took the truck on the longest trip so far.

it was only like 6 or so miles ha.

but went up to like 65 and kinda scary, really cold mud terrains are super noisy lol.

i still think i'ma take it to a normal shop and just have them look over everything before i start to drive it further, otherwise right now its just gonna be around town.

checked oil again today after driving it in town for week or so, still full so thats a good sign eh? :P

Went down to the shop to get some exhaust work done, gonna get some custom piping and a new muffler, they gotta order some parts for it, so next week i'll hopefully have a nice sounding exhaust instead of the my temp job right now thats full of leaks :) haha.

so a video to come when its done.

also, what do you guys think of the chrome grill? i've thought about getting a plain painted one to match with bedliner like my bumper.

also considering doing my rockers in the spring with bedliner.

No on the rockers and keep the chrome. Looks good on your truck and it fits. Everyone is doing the bedlined rockers now.

Been watching the build, nice truck! Cant wait to see the vid. I'd leave the rockers alone also and a no to painting the grille, either leave it alone or it would be cool to do the 01-03 front swap since you already have the front bumper/fogs if you like that look.

Not to sound like a dick, but if you have no clue what to do, you might be in over your head.

i had no clue what to do, but it was either have a used 3.0 dropped in, and have a gutless truck while hauling..anything, or go ahead and do the 5.0

go read about it on therangerstation and you'll get a feeling on what all needs to be done. depending on if you want to just drop it right in, or build something up first.

and the rocker/grill was just something i've been thinking about, i def have to re-bed line my bumper/mirrors because they faded, i need to find something that doesn't fade.

Anyone want to donate to the vonhanson sas fund? thanks. :)

the exhaust is like a crappy y pipe into the stock ranger setup it leaks from his welds and is crap haha.

i'll take picks of how the new pipes look this week hopefully. and a vid so you can hear it.

and CEL is from ob2 status? or something like that, idk ha.

i also have the red theft light blinking at me, and the orange 4 hi and low lights blinking too. very colorful dashboard right now.

Well its at the shop right now, they put a new fuel filter and some new plugs on it, and went to move it to the lift to work on the exhaust, and it wouldn't start, they said the starter was worn out. But I had no problem starting it this morning when I drove it into the shop. So wtf. Lol

I had a shop like that, I think they played me like a fiddle.

I do not use them anymore.

Are there any other shops in the area that do the same kind of work as this shop.

luck,

naw this is the only place that does exhaust work, they brought it to a place for rebuilding it that i've used and trusted before, i called them and they said the gear teeth were rounded off pretty good and something else was messed up on it, but its kinda weird because i never have a problem starting it for the last month or anything.

then he called me later saying that the muffler they had for my truck was to long for what i wanted ( exhaust exiting before passenger tire) and they knew thats what i wanted. so i told him that i didn't want it coming out the back or anything so hopefully they find me a new muffler or figure out a way to make it work. just makes me kinda mad that it should of been a lot easier to get everything done but its not.

Well good luck with them.

The starter, question, did the one that is BAD, come with the engine ?
If not did you chk the depth of the noise of the starter ?
I had one starter that was from a SBF but it didn’t work with the 5.0L conversion in my ’88 setup. I found the problem right away it was tearing the teeth on the flywheel apart.
Don’t remember the one I ended up using but it is something to thing about.

Are you running auto or manual ?
Did you chg the flywheel on the 5.0L ?

Just thinking here about starter damage.

Well, got the truck back, whats the alldata labor time on changing sparkplugs on the 5.0 anyone know?

pretty expensive trip to the shop but oh well.

exhaust is kinda ugly so i'ma cut part of it off. otherwise it sounds okay. its almost a little tin cannish sounding at higher rpm's so i'ma wait till the muffler gets broke in a bit.

the whole thing is 2 1/4 inch pipe. which is stock, but i think the tip on it is 2 1/2, would going to like a 3 inch tip make a difference in the sound?

sorry for no pictures, its dark out and i had to work all dahy. haha

Well i rescanned my truck and found some codes, which is probably why the bad gas mileage?

last time i checked there was only 1.

which said obd system readiness test not complete.

now there is a bunch more.

tranny range a
4x4 switch (i had electric tcase, now i have fulltime awd)

and now it says

o2 heater htr-21

and

lack of ho2 switches-sensor indicates lean

someone else said i probably have a vacuum leak? i have a bunch of stuff i want to replace but i want it to be better untill spring time.

Pretty much just talking to myself nowadays

its way to cold to be working outside without a heated garage. lol

cleaned my my mafs. found a big leak but i might of caused it, so i cleaned up the tube and fixed that, drove it a bit after that and it seemed a little better.

i really want to get a manual tcase in there so i have 2wd and 4lo, but don't want to shell out for new driveshafts if i'ma sas it and have to get a new front one anyway.

other news, i'm excited to get some tax money back in the near future, hopefully pay off or a large chunk of student loans or some other bills, then i can have more money for the truck.

Well i picked up an explorer 8.8 today. 3.73 gears and l/s just gotta clean it up and flip the mounts on it, and shock tabs for it.

btw Andy, i have to bring some family to the cities next thursday, so maybe i can swing by your work and drop it off for you?

like everyday i'm getting tired of having open diffs haha.

with the mileage being off cuz of gears/tire size, i checked today and it was 8.5 mpgs, with that mostly highway :( ha damn winter
