Im not trying to pick on you as I know you have your mind made up and its already done and I respect what you have done.

In a way I love how all the work is done and how clean it is I just dont understand why not just lay it out why its already torn apart. I understand you wanted a better ride than a static drop but you could have achieved the same height with a simple static drop but then again you wanted a good ride and now you have adjustability so you can get in driveways.

Great piece of work!

Just a suggestion.... of painting the door hands back to black. Areas like that one which get touched everytime you enter the truck tend to get grimmy as hell in a short amount of time.

I understand what you're saying Mark. I know most of you young'uns like the laid out look.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. It's just not a look that does anything for me.
It's just not my thing. Yes you're correct about achieving the look I want with a static drop.
I had exactly the look I wanted with the original 2"/3" drop with 29" tall 255/55X18 tires.
I just didn't care for the ride. That's the primary reason I'm going to bags.

You have my permission if this doesn't work, to say "I TOLD YOU SO."

Umm, it's almost 9 a.m. and I've been up for 15 minutes already. What shall I do today?
Play golf? Go for a hike in the mountains? Go play with the grand kids? Lay out by the pool and work on my tan? Clean my truck?

I'd say go for a nice drive or play some golf while everyone else has to work and then visit the grand kids later in the afternoon.

Your truck is really coming along nicely. Im glade to see your able to get back to those dreams we all had in our younger years... Hopefully in a few more years I’ll be able to say and do the same.

I thought the elders liked to watch the weather channel or the news?

 

I haven't watched TV news since the O.J. trial. As for the weather channel, I watch it only long enough to see what the temps will be.
Here in the so. Calif desert the "forecast" is always the same. "sunny and clear." We probably have about 345 days of sunshine a year.
Maybe 10-12" of rain a YEAR. When they talk about rainfall around here it's usually in hundredths of an inch.

 

J.J., with just a little bit of planing on your part. You too can be where I am when you retire.
While not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, I am COMFORTABLE.
I did it in just 12 years. Started when I was 50 and retired at 62. If I did it so can you.

 

This is the bump stop bracket Oscar built. Without the rear bags installed the stops rest on the rear end.
When the bags are installed there should be about 2" clearance.






With the shock fully extended there's about 9-10" between stops and the rear end.




Passenger side shock. Still have to fabricate shock mounts for the driver side.
Without the rear bags installed the notch in the frame clears the axle by about 1" or so.
That's with the stops resting on the rear end.




LUXURIOUS CUSTOMS fabricated this panel to house the air gauges and control switches.
I really like the way it came out.

 

LUXURIOUS CUSTOMS looks like they are giving you your money's worth. Little things like that gauge pod are what really set a custom apart.

Figure the progress they were making on it they would be done by now or close? Or you got it back and you have been to busy driving and enjoying it??

 

Afraid not Mark. We're at the fabricating stage. From this point on he has to make everything he needs.
Upper and lower mounting points for all four shocks, etc. So it's measure, cut, trial fit, go back and trim, trial fit again, bla, bla, bla. So progress is very slow.
Oscar does beautiful work. Can't believe how clean everything looks. He's a perfectionist.
Most guys would just cut off an old bracket and let it go at that. I probably would have been happy with that.
Oscar will cut off the bracket, drill out the old rivets, grind the area smooth, fill in the hole and grind it smooth again. When he's finished you don't know there was something there in the first place.
I've told him this is a daily driver and not a show truck.
He told me his pride in his workmanship won't let him do it any other way.
I can't argue with that. I was the same way when I was working. Told him to do it his way.
I'd rather he takes a few extra days or a week and do it right.
Than to get it today and have a half a$$ job done on it. So I'm being patient.
BUT I WANT IT NOW.

 

Sounds like hes doing it right and taking his time so you dont get back a hack job of a truck. Glad to see there are shops out there that go the extra time and do things +1 because thats what brings customers in and previous customers back.

 

UPDATE...


First 2 shots are of the air tank, pump and control units for the rear air bags.
The pump and air tank was placed in the space formally occupied by the spare tire.
By mounting them between the frame rails like this I will still have full use of the bed.
Oscar will build a skid plate under the tank to protect it.

Oscar is putting everything where it can easily be accessed in case anything ever needs servicing.



When I was there today, they were in the process of hooking up all the plumbing.
They still need to wire everything up.
After that there's still some wiring in the cab to be finished and some other odds and ends.


I'm starting to feel like a little kid on Christmas eve.
I'm hoping they'll have the truck finished before this weekend. :

Yes VERY new. The young man, Art Garcia, that owns it is only 22. He opened this shop , his 2nd, about 5-6 months ago.
It's on Vella Rd. just off the airport. About 1/2 block south of Ramon Rd.

 

I was only kidding with you, Sir, regarding my previous comment. I have alot of respect for you, sir. Building an AWESOME rig for your grandson, and getting out there working on it yourself. I call 30 yr olds that I work with old men. Basically anyone who is older than me. haha.
