This thing is brand new, in development, and people are complaining about AVATAR sizes, like it's a big deal.

Especially when you are provided the service for FREE. You may have a "right" to complain; but some of the expression of that "right" around here is WRONG.

And that's my .02
i guess that could be what it is... way i see it, is that i put about a week's wages into getting this new software and i thought everyone would be like "this is soooo cool, i love this site!!!" and things of that sort...

sk0t has spent countless hours on the database and i have spent almost an equal amount working on the board itself... it's just kinda "disheartening" as you put it, john, when it's an overwhelminlgy larger number of complaints than notes of appreciation or acceptance or anything...

the board is not but a few days old... in time, there will be many more features and the kinks will be worked out of it...

last time i checked there weren't too many boards quite as open to critisizm or comments as i am... i let myself be open for them for a reason, because i want the site to be enjoyed by most. but when people get to critisizing some of the most minute points so quickly, i guess it gets under my skin.

i apologize for my harsh tone, and like this board i have quite a few bugs to work out and some modifcations needed also..

just give it a little time, fellas

You PAID for the forum software?! Why? Was the old software really that bad?

I for one don't have very high expectations from a board like this. That's not a knock, I just mean that as has been said, I don't pay for the site, and therefore don't expect much in the line of premium services or anything like that.

Christian, I for one ceritanly don't mean any disrespect. I have a lot of admiration for you trying to go to school full-time, maintain a part-time job, and some semblance of a personal life, PLUS run this site. I have been there myself so I can sincerely claim admiration.

However I for one didn't ask for the change. I for one didn't see anything wrong w/ the old one. And I'm going to legitamately cite my complaints w/ the change. As I've said before, you're welcome to do what you like w/ them. But try not to take it so personally..

And you're not necessarily the problem, Colin -- though I've had my differences with your attitude before, as we all know! :p

However, there are a lot of people "standing up for their rights" when it comes to complaining and knocking down this board and what folks do. When someone gets harsh and is called on it, they stand on their rights and some co-dependent fool rushes in to support them.

Well, that's a lot of what's wrong with our culture: we stand up PASSIONATELY for our rights, but fail to encourage RESPONSIBILITY and RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOR. You know, things like being supportive, and giving people an atta-boy for their hard work before diving into self-referential (that is, selfish) demands and criticism.

I just feel like the response to the change is emblematic of American society today. We spend more time bitchin' than buildin' -- and you can quote me on that...even as I'm bitchin'. However, I do spend a fair amount of time encouraging, so I don't feel guilty about these observations.

I think many of you need to think about this, and be less quick to stand up for someones right to be a moron, and more quick to take responsibility for trying to make the community work, and support those doing the heavy lifting.

I wasn't trying to single you out. If I would have picked someone elses name to use they would have said the same thing. I just personally think these forums look like s*** since the whole change. I used to be a webmaster myself and I guess it is just driving me a little nuts. I mean c'mon. I'm blinded by blue and HUGE avatars. It's like one of the terrible club sites that have those huge avatars and huge pictures in their sigs. Thank god there isn't any pics in the sigs on here.

Suuuure..

Seriously, how is sharing your opinion on what you find better/worse about the 'new' site being a moron? Opinions were asked for and rendered. I seriously don't see the problem or why people are worked up..

But I'm aparently a co-dependent fool w/ an attitude. So whaddah I know?

So change the colors. That's what I did. You can turn off the avatars. Do it. Do both, then your problems are gone.

And another thing, when I asked the question at the beginning I get this rediculous answer by the site's owner:

"See, thing is, John's special... so we let him do what he wants, cause he doesnt understand things this complicated.."

Maybe if I would have gotten a clear answer from him at the start I wouldn't have cared too much. But being a "moron" as some people are being called on here, and replying with an answer like that, is just rediculous.

And I am with you NHBubba, I'm only expressing my views on the new site, that is in my mind, terrible looking.

The fact that you don't get it, confirms your last statement.

Actually, this thread started out as a rant because he tried (but couldn't) load a big avatar. Which means that he was going to have one just as big as everyone else's. Which makes it even more stupid that he's complaining about how annoying they are. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

What's even more rediculous is how this has turned into an "us v. them" thing, and wedges between members will probably result.

I'm with Griggs on this one. The owners busted their *** to give us double the features, and the only thing some of you guys can do is bitch about it being "too blue" and crying because your avatar isn't big enough.

Either turn avatars off, so they don't disturb you, or chip in $10 and you can have one just as obnoxious. This is really childish.

John the sky above your truck is blue.
This forum is more of a gray color, or is it just my screen?
Please confirm as I am more than a little color blind also.....

It may have started because he didn't understand the us/them avatar concept (I didn't at first either). But people have not taken issue w/ that. People have taken issue w/ the fact that he doesn't like the new, larger avatars, new layout, and new color schemes and went 'so far' as to say so..

One positive thing seems to come out of this and similar complaints: there is now an option for color scheme. I for one am thankful as I now run the 'other' scheme..

Neil,

The forum default is like a dark forrest grey-green with the second color being a lime-ish grey puke color.

You can change it to a white/blue/baby blue color that is Zestfully clean!

Hrmmm, dunno man. It is blue on my screen, but not very bright. To put a Ford paint code on it, I'd say Medium Wedgewood Blue like on some of the older Explorers.

It is kind of greyish though.

Yeah, good analogy. I just changed back and it isn't really as green as I thought. I still like the white and blue combo better.

No, that was Leo(FoMoCoEdge), not Christian. Leo is currently one of the Site's contributors. No less or more. Don't take it personally, he was just trying to lighten up the thread.

So I think most of your questions have been answered.

How can you get a bigger avatar? Become a site Contributor.

Don't like the forum colors? Click Quick Links, goto Edit Options, and scroll down to change it to another style.

Why buy the software? Lots of cooler features, Lots of better security, lots of more options for the users.

Anything else I missed?

I haven't turned anything into them vs us kind of thing. You may like to think of it that way. You're just pissed because I used you as an example. Like I said before, if I were to have acknowledged anyone else, they would have reacted the same way.

And what is so wrong with voicing my opinion on how annoying the huge avatars are?
