A Proposal?

Well since the Avatar's are now a smaller size and not to many people are happy about it could we possibly start using Pic's in our Sigs

here is an example that i use on another forum.

I like the idea. But it deters from one of the reasons the avatars were sized down in the first place: site loading speeds.

My opinion, you've seen some peoples sigs....I've got a 19" moniter and a couple peoples sigs fill that moniter. The reason: sig quotes. Is there a real need for 8" of quotes in a signature? Maybe a limit of how many quotes in a sig?

I cant stand it when people have more than one quote in their sigs! Especially with the new forum skin. Talk about annoying.

pics in the signature would be cool though, within reason of course.

Could you guys post up other forums sig pics to get an idea? I know RPS has 'em...what are the sizes allowed for them?

sig pics would be baller, just get rid of profile pics and let anyone make their own signature.

And it's dumb to say load times are affected, the site loads just fine. Someones bottom $ line is getting affected and they're trying save some $$.

why is it dumb, ask how many people browse the site on their mobile? or how many are still on dial up. you would be surprised by the numbers i think.

As for right now, I would like to leave it as is, its too early to be changing stuff on the fly. The new style has not even been used for a week.

Yep I browse on the crackberry quite frequently...however i think animated signatures would be great for the site.

zach if you allow sig images, another suggestion would be to limit sig characters. some people sigs are out of control already. that would help out a bit if you decided to turn them on.

Yeah we have discussed it too, I wish there was a way to limit quotes separate from character length but there isnt.

I think we shortened sigs as is, I just hope if we do go sig images its not abused.

I love the idea of images in siggys............... i.e., mine as long as they don't get abused as Zach said. Guidelines would need to be set.....great idea!

I like the pics in the sig idea too. Is there a way to limit the sigs by number of lines instead of characters? I'm with Shane and get tired of scrolling through a thread with sigs that have 4 and 5 quotes in them.

I think limiting the sigs to 5-6 lines would work out good. F150online does 4 and thats a little too small so 5-6 should be perfect.

I forgot to add that it would definitely need to be regulated on how much text/how big the image can be in it.

if we went forward with this i know i would have to delete something in my sig as of right now i think its borderline to much already.

I think its a great idea. As for load times for people on cells and dial up, they can always turn of sigs in their user cp.

they could, yes. we are revising some of the sig stuff and I will probably put up a new thread after a while explaining it and our decision.
